Re: SCORE only running small loop
i think no matter what there are gonna be some people who will stick up for score, they usually are long time score racers who personally know sal and see the hard work he puts in, but you have to admit as far as laughlin and primm the spectating flat out sucks now. and it is dissapointing to be told that certain things are out of the control of score, such as land closers, but two yrs later another group puts in the effort and gets parts of the course that we were told couldnt be raced on. i have not been to laughlin for the past two yrs because last time it just sucked but went to the snore race last weekend and had a great time. we did have to cross the track from the hill area to get to a better spot but it was well worth it.

Re: SCORE only running small loop
Spectating Laughlin is fun and easy. Just charter a helocopter for the whole weekend, fill it with beer and a good ipod, and just let the pilot cruise you around. Seems simple.

Re: SCORE only running small loop
As I stated in another thread regarding SCORE......
"We all know that each of these race orgs. have there fair share of warts & wrinkles. If you don't like'em, race somewhere else. For most of us, this is supposed fun and an adventure.
Come on, let's be happy these promoters are out there making off road races happen. SCORE has been thru tough times, in the late 90's, when TTs were down to just a handful. They made it. I hope they and all the other race orgs. make it thru these times as well.
The racers will be the benefactors of their success."

I dont know all the facts behind the scenes but if SCORE was given the opportunity to run the 12 mile course and chose instead to use the 6 mile course that is a huge mistake that will cost them a lot of entries and only push more people to the SNORE race.
Of course I don't think we should blindly follow but I don't think we know all that goes into negotiating a race and the give and takes that organizers have to go through. I think we should do our best to support them. If we don't understand something an organizer does we should call them and ask and not try to put them down on a public forum. Also we want all organizers to succeed so we need to be positive not negative about them.

Grandstands, hot dogs, and big screens are all super. But if I was in to that I'd go to a ball game. Desert racing is about, well, the desert. Paying $20 to watch some of the most sophisticated purpose built machines in the world motor over a graded dirt road with a few jumps for good measure doesn't allow the spectator a real feel for what off road racing is all about.
Understand SNORE lost the fight for the high school viewing area but at least from the pits (which still limits the average fans ability to enjoy) folks were able to catch the whoops coming in to main. Not comparing the two in terms of whose better, just making the point that charging spectators $20 to sit in bleachers and see the least exciting part of a desert race isn't much of an incentive to be a fan.
As nothing more then a spectator for over 20 years, I'm overly sensitive to the issue I suppose. Just bums me out to see the poster organization of the sport unable to find a way to allow fans to experience what desert racing is really all about.
Hit the nail on the head !
Having just returned from the SNORE race as a spectator and having done the SCORE Laughling race for many many years, what a great spectator experience I just had with SNORE ( also at BAP and the Mint 400) . No I didnt get to go to all of the places I would have like to watch a race from. But I was able to negotiate around "SCORE Hill " and the Pits for 3 days of fun without paying any fees or looking through any fences. Watched qualifying down in the pits on Friday had a blast ! No pit pass was needed. Not bashing SCORE but charging to sit in a grand stand and look through chain link fences is not really much fun. The High School view is a good addition to spectating, lets hope both Organizations continue to do this as well as find new areas like it! I am willing to spend my money traveling to places to watch this great sport ( gas, hotels, food) but it sures is nice to roll up to a race and find free good spectating areas to make it worth it instead of high fees and small restricted spectating areas or Chain Link fences (SCORE PRIMM)!
All I ask is that all organiazations think about the spectators who drive the miles to see the races.......from Baja to PRIMM, Laughlin, Reno, Hederson, Parker, anywhere....its all good .....just leave us a place to watch ! Now back to the thread !

Re: SCORE only running small loop
Isn't the shorter course better for the spectators? You see cars coming by continously and see them more often.
If you are looking for open desert racing as either a fan or competitor, well this ain't it.
But it's a cool event and I think that for this event 6 miles is twice as much as 12 miles. Twice as much action that is.

Re: SCORE only running small loop
Did anyone notice how many spectators were at RATR compared to SCORE's Laughlin race, or how many top Trophy Truck and Class 1 teams?
...or, did anyone notice how many LEOs were there compared to the SCORE race?
Anyone ever notice how many spectators and LEOs there are at a Major Rock Concert compared to the local "Battle of the Bands" at city park, and the cost of admission.
I have said it before, SCORE is held to a different standard and is at a different level and to compare the two is stupid.
I love both! Had a blast last weekend racing with SNORE and plan to race SCORE Laughlin next!
Now go take on the desert.

Re: SCORE only running small loop
Just watching Chis jump is worth the price of admission! SCORE is held to a higher level than some of the smaller promotion outfits.
Hey! You kids!! Get OFF my driveway!!! If you can't go away happy, just go away!
