as much of a backer i have always been for SCORE my eyes are definatly shifting to SNORE. great run events, fun, and more of a family atmosphere.
i still think that SCORE Championship trophy is my highest goal but SNORE is right there after going to a few of their events.

If you can find anything about Scores race that is better than Snores race I sure would like to hear it. Just because it cost about 3 times more to enter does not mean it is better. TT and maybe class 1 I can see going because of the entry numbers for those 2 classes, the rest of the classes will be tiny. Battle at Primm will be another Golden feather in Snores cap. Enjoy
Hey "Downer Dave" SCORE does put on a few races south of the border that seems to draw a crowd! The Primm 300 isn't too shabby either. As stated earlier, all three series (Score, Snore & Bitd) have great events and all three use that little black box you're such a fan of!

    I appreciate what they're doing...but it's like any industry...

One business will get to the top either through hard work or a niche (baja racing). Once there they start to slack off because they can. Then you start to see the smaller guys work their ass off to gain market share and all of a sudden the big guy loses his monopoly (well...oligopoly I guess)

Look at Microsoft before Apple got big and domestic automakers before imports gained popularity...while at the top they didn't necessarily become completely stagnant - but they certainly lost steam comparatively to the little guys.
Hope is the first step on the road of disappointment

Do the math I was able to have rooms, food and great entertainment for the whole team and family for less than well you see what I am saying. SNORE to me by far is the # 1 racing org in the U S A not to mention the Battle at Primm coming up and then the gruling Mint 400 etc. Oh did I mention if you have 10 cars or more in your class the payback is awesome to. I wish I didn't have to worry about money but I do. Thank you SNORE for champaign races on a beer budget.
Bill, I love ya man, but you have your facts wrong a little. Spectators are charged $20 a day and that includes the BIG SCREEN TV with 4-7 live cameras filming from different parts of the course, food and apparel vendors and GRANDSTANDS. I think the reason we hate the fact that we have to pay to watch an off road race is because we normally don't do it unless it's a short course event. This is pretty much a short course event and I think you will have to admit that the racing action is some of the best you will see all year! Some of the best video and camera shots that we see on all those DVD's we buy are from this race. The $40 fee is for the VIP area and that includes drinks and food (I believe) in a covered canopy. Entry fee's are not $2000, they are $1465 for pro classes, now I know entries are cheaper in SNORE but there are other factors involved with entry fee's that are not the same in other series. I'm not here to discredit ANY other series, just the opposite actually....I'd rather WE not do the "this series" vs. "that series" because when it's all said and done it hurts ALL OF THEM. Laughlin is Laughlin, it's been this way for years and everybody has nothing but negitive things to say before the event....which in turn ends up hurting the event. Then, after the race is over, everyone that went is bragging about how good the racing was etc...

This is not your normal desert race, it's more like a short course race with about the same...if not MORE restrictions. If you go into it knowing that your not going to set yourself up for disappointment. The Laughlin Tourism Commission is putting money into off road racing.......just ask anyone who won free entries and rooms from the SCORE Primm 300 and SNORE 250 races....they are sponsoring 2 desert races and even helped out yours truly for the Baja 1000! Positive people, lets start this season off right while the economy is starting to get it's sea legs back.

True but that does not mean we should blindly follow them and say great job all time regardless of whether a good or a poor job was done.

I dont know all the facts behind the scenes but if SCORE was given the opportunity to run the 12 mile course and chose instead to use the 6 mile course that is a huge mistake that will cost them a lot of entries and only push more people to the SNORE race.

Re: SCORE only running small loop

I'm gonna compare them all because it seems to me a lot of contradicting things have been going on lately. It seems to me we are a 1000% sure that the 12 mile 11 mile whatever loop has been approved with some jumping through rings of fire of course but, that also means that SCORE needs extra volunteers, has to pay Metro to chase down bank robbers and car thieves, also extra BLM which leads me back to one thing MONEY. Being as I've been around for a while and now am gonna be gone for a while why should I even care or voice my opinion, because to me SCORE is dubbed the premiere off road sanctioning body in the US and is by far the most stagnant sanctioning body in the US so yes for some stupid reason this bothers me. Now I know most, if not all of you are going to say, why don't you call SCORE and complain and my answer to that is SCORE personally doesn't care what one single person such as myself thinks especially since I'm not a racer or paying any (MONEY) fees so I am voicing my opinion here as is everybody else. Trust me when I tell you I would like to see all sanctioning bodies continue to grow and succeed as this has been my life and a small source of income for a number of years as well as I've met a lot of the best people on the planet but, I just would like to see it grow and succeed in a positive, entertaining fashion. Sorry for all the bitchin but, I do feel better now.

    Thank You,
    Bob Bowers.

Re: SCORE only running small loop

I will add that as a fan, I don't care how much we want to say Laughlin is "like a short course", the fact is it's not. As a spectator if I wanted to see short course racing, which is what your $20 will get you with a view of the infield, I would go to a short course race.

Grandstands, hot dogs, and big screens are all super. But if I was in to that I'd go to a ball game. Desert racing is about, well, the desert. Paying $20 to watch some of the most sophisticated purpose built machines in the world motor over a graded dirt road with a few jumps for good measure doesn't allow the spectator a real feel for what off road racing is all about.

Understand SNORE lost the fight for the high school viewing area but at least from the pits (which still limits the average fans ability to enjoy) folks were able to catch the whoops coming in to main. Not comparing the two in terms of whose better, just making the point that charging spectators $20 to sit in bleachers and see the least exciting part of a desert race isn't much of an incentive to be a fan.

As nothing more then a spectator for over 20 years, I'm overly sensitive to the issue I suppose. Just bums me out to see the poster organization of the sport unable to find a way to allow fans to experience what desert racing is really all about.
