Once again I'm cheering for Jonah Street. He's got a better chance of beating the "works teams" this year than last.
Go Jonah!!!
I've been part of the Rally PanAm "Riff Raff" for a couple of years now and I'm very proud to help support such a great team.

VW's only competition this year is the Beemers. All four VW Dakar Race Touaregs are fully capable of wining, so the real race will be within the VW team. Its up to Mark to beat Carlos, because it's Carlos' race to lose.
Rubby continues to step it up, but still has a lot of work to do. He's going to have to have a "water carrier" that he won't have to wait hours for if he has a problem. Ronn certainly isn't that guy.
I was very disappointed to see the JCR Honda entry not make the final list of entries.

there's a good shot for a podium finish for robby in my estimation. somebody in a toureg will tank it. but rg will need a flawless race with a minimum amount of errors. this is gonna be real close racing. it could be marks year. it would be beyond all the american fans expectations for a 1 2 finish. now that would be cool. but in a realistic sense, two yanks in the top 5 would be a great showing once again.

we all know about the armins [wrc], the toureg effort at the 500 and the toureg tt that miller drove in the mil. i wonder how many of the top rally raid drivers would fare in our desert racing format down south or say, v2r and i wonder why some more of them don't put a program together to give it a whirl. just too busy? rg doesn't seem to have a problem with multiple venues. i know it's kinda hard to believe, but i talked to european drivers at the dakar who have NEVER heard of the baja 1000.

Nasser just pushes Rubs one place back from the podium even if one of the other Veedubs tanks. I predict a VW sweep and then they go away. By the time Rubby has it totally together in a year or two, Beemer will factory team left to beat.
Too much of the South American race is WRC style for Carlos not to win. Peterhansel is the king of the African dunes, but is out of his element in South America.

Agreed....the VW promotional tour continues in '10...RG will battle with BMW for the leftover scraps...Then the Dakar returns to Africa in '11...

If they return to Africa in '11 it will be Peterhansel's to lose.
