Anybody every try to use an Inline 6?
Just curios if anybody has ever used or attempted to use an inline 6 in there race or pre runner vehicle?
The 2JZ-GTE from the Supras and other Japanese cars can make good power with minimal mods, only issue I could see is the length and the fact that you need a big ass turbo.
You can make 500whp on them with bolt ons and a good tune.

The Hurzog / Ragland did it in 1999-2000 with a 5 cyl in the trailblazer program It did pretty well [and i mean yawn pretty well] You had to spin the GUTS out of it to make any power. Other than that they are VERY spendy and heavy and gutless.

This thing had the motor you are specking of in it. It is the same idea as a Honda. Have to keep it rev'd up to stay in V-tec. I guess it depends on what you are wanting to put it in and what you are wanting to do with it.

The only inline 6 that I've driven that had good power was a 3.0 liter Lexus, about 240 BHP @ alot of RPM.....Didn't say it was the be$t option.
BTW, that Trailblazer would have won the overall at the Baja 2000 if they hadn't rolled it about 100 miles from the finish. Still brought it in for a podium finish.
Those cars had a brief but successful racing career.

It was an I-6, and that would be Herzog. Your right about one thing, if you can't make it bigger you have to turn it faster.

Ya the issues I could see would be the weight and the power band, I can imagine you could tune it to do what you want to get the power band close. I had one in a 4000lb Supra and at about 350whp with stock twin turbos and some bolt on's it made for a great power band.
The 2JZ engines are bullet proof and are easy to make power, cheap to build, but you get the lag of a turbo.
So could you use one of these in the V6 classes? Or would it be mostly a Pre Runner only deal? I take it from Daryl's comment its a no, due to the turbos?

And man did those things sound good at full song. I think they were pushing 5L with those with bore and stroke gains.

As of right now the only class that can run force induction is sportsman. I know they are letting diesel do it also but I have heard some fighting to get that to work also.

Re: Anybody every try to use an Inline 6?
i used to be in the import scene. the 2jz could be twin or single turbo so you would be able to compensate for lag by using 2 smaller turbos. and ive seen people push around 1000hp on stock internals. another good i-6 is the skyline engine rb25 or rb26 which also come in TT or single.
and they are very simple as far as electronics go...(not like 350 sbc simple) but still pretty simple.
