Dakar Stage 6 - ANTOFAGASTA > IQUIQUE
Dakar Stage 6 - ANTOFAGASTA > IQUIQUE
Liaison: 180 km (111mi)
Special: 418 km (260mi)
598 km are on the menu for stage 6 of which 418 km against the clock that will still make contenders suffer with challenges like managing the efforts deployed and many pace changes. Indeed, after facing a first third of the special stage off-track, the contenders will be able to "let their horse(power) loose" on broad and fast tracks before facing an erg of some...
For those of you with Google Earth, here’s a KML file with the approximate path of this stage drawn in. keep in mind the line is not the exact course. The exact course is secret. But you’ll at least be able to see the general terrain they are crossing. The file comes from our moto friend Carlos M from Portugal, as posted on ADVrider.com.

The efforts are equally spread out on the day’s special. On the off-piste portion of the first third, the dust will push the competitors to be cautious. The larger and faster tracks that will be at the heart of the program will force those who are fighting for positions to maintain a fast pace. They will however need to keep a good amount of energy: indeed an African type erg awaits at the heart of a sandy portion of around fifty kilometres. But for the final part, the reward will be at the height of the difficulties. After having climbed a last dune, the competitors will take on a slide type sand downhill of close to three kilometres with Iquique and the waves of the ocean on the horizon. An unforgettable scene.

Fish get your food stamps ready. One of the three will go down today. 10 more stages to go.
Fish:::"At least ONE of them will NOT loose 25+ min on ANY stage. So thats the bet and its on."

Correct so even if ONE of them goes down today I still have 2 more backing up my bet! You need all 3 to fail for you to win!

USA guys should do good. Finishing next to the Pacific should remind them a little of Ensenada. Go Miller, RG, BJ, and Street!

Ahhh, found the news...Alfie Cox and his SA built Navara are out...came down a hill into a ravine and landed nose first pushing the oil cooler into the engine and damaging the sump. No backup was available to help repairs as their T4 had blown a turbo yesterday as well...he and his co-driver spent the night sleeping in the dunes and the support vehicles are to reach them today to extract them and the vehicle...
