Dakar Stage 8: ANTOFAGASTA – COPIAPO

568 km including a 472-km timed section are on the menu of the 8th stage. Following on from the rest day,
the competitors will have been wise to enjoy it, because the race resumes with another “biggie”.
For this penultimate stage in the Atacama, the remaining competitors in the 32nd Dakar will have to pick their way through terrain
at the start of the special that is full of stones and extremely tricky, with in particular several zones of fesh-fesh.
Afterwards, the pace will quicken dramatically as the competitors gobble up some 300 km of winding and fast tracks that will lead the caravan
through the ranges of dunes above Copiapo, before a final 90 km of “total sand”.

Would be nice to see Peterhansel or the other beemer get back in the mix.

VW in these races is starting to look like Audi in LeMans for the last decade.

    Dominate.

Will fog along the coast be a factor again?

i was gonna say Peugot stepped up. but seriously you can't knock somebody for being good. if the V-dubs are spanking everybody, it's cuz they are good. if you want to beat them, get better.

the fact that the rules are so screwy is what makes this rally seem like more of a demonstration in technology, than an actual car race. i'd rather see a good ole bring what you can build and let rrr rip. restrictors are lame.

and can someone explain why RG thinks his 2 wheel drive is better in the sand than a 4x4. i've been stuck in the sand a bunch and it's always better to have 4x4 if you ask me.

He is able to have unlimited travel (per 2wd rules) so he can go faster over the small dunes and whoops and camel grass sections. Thats why he always is saying how the hummers eat camel grass. The 4x4 are limited to 10" (per 4x4 rules) travel so they arent able to go as fast over the bumps but they KILL him on all the smooth rally roads.
