    which nine inch?

I am curious to know which ford nine inch would be the best suited for building a four or three link set-up. I know the old continental rear ends are used alot, as well as one of the mustang. Which is stronger, and do you know which has the nodular casing? I cant really afford a curry....any help wuold be greatly appreciated!!

i doubt you'll find a factory nodular anymore. get one out of a truck, then you get a stronger housing and factory 31 spline axles.

    good luck,

starting in about 78 and ending in about 86 the housings are stronger.the tubes sit inside the carrier portion of the housing for approx 12 inches.the same years in the e150's have a housing that is a few inches wider.the early 9 inches in cars have butt welded tubes and smaller bearings.

    Re: which nine inch?

for ranger owners, an advantage of the car (vs. truck/van) 9 inch are the matching lug pattern. cars sometimes have disk brakes too. if you truss it, the housing is strong, but i think the car rear ends are all 28 spline. it depends on what truck your gonna put it under? if you search google for nine inch, you can find endless info on factory 9 inch widths and gears and traction devices and everything.

Keep in mind, it looks really cheap to stuff in a salvaged 9" but really add up the parts and fabrication time, it might still be cheaper to pay the $2K to buy one already done...Curt

no joke... unless you are content with a low-budget beater (some are) do it the right way and buy a pre-setup axle, it will save you a ton of time and money.
