Parker Pit 4 - Mineral Wash... Please Read
If you are one of the very fortunate ones who gets to hang out with me all day and night, please read:
"For those of you using Pit # 4 - Mineral Wash, your support crew MUST have a Red Best In The Desert Pit Pass affixed on the windshield. They must be by the land closure on Shea Road by 5 AM Saturday, Feb 6, and WILL NOT be able to leave Pit Mineral Wash, until the race course is closed, late Saturday night. If any pit crews leave Mineral Wash - Pit #4 before Best In The Desert closes the pit, that crew will be subject to a citation by BLM Ranger or La Paz County Sheriff. They will be waiting for them at the aquaduct crossing."
Also, please tell your crew the above - year after year, I have pit crews show up with no jacket, no food, a few bottles of water, and no warm clothes because their crew chief or other didn't mention to them that they would be in that pit for about 18 hours (prolly for fear they wouldn't show up
). Last year was really sad - this one crew's own father sent his son and a friend there with NOTHING!!! They were told they could leave after the first lap and not to worry about taking anything - and we all know what last year was like weather-wise!!! I always bring extra jackets, food and drinks juuuuuust in case, but please be honest with your crews - it really helps me do my job with a smile on my face and will keep your crew from meeting LE at the aquaduct crossing when they don't take the rules seriously
And yes, I do call and prepare them for your arrival - this is all about safety, as you have to take the course backwards for several miles and you never know who will pop up out of nowhere to re-join the race in a hurry
So, with the lecture over, let's try to make this a good time for all of us... bring your horseshoes, bbq's, FIREWOOD, DVD players, poker chips, frisbees - whatever you have to keep us all occupied when things start slowing down (usually after Lap 1
). Two years ago, we had a multi-team bbq and fire, with Ron Whitton being our ever-so-gracious host and firewood gatherer... was probably one of the best times I've had in that pit over the last 4 years of working it...
With that, I can't wait to get to Parker!!! See you in Tech and, if you're lucky
, Pit 4 haha!

Last year I worked that pit for the Checkers and Chuck Hovey. Thankfully somebody brought a trailer full of firewood in our group. Jamie is right, a few souls thought that they needed to leave early, and they were met by the law enforcement clan. For all intents and planning , I would plan on being there all night, then getting to leave earlier is a bonus. I think we cut out at a bit before 10. Towing both the Etters class 1 car and one of the Banning motorsports 12 cars. Jamie and one in tow and so did we.
We took lots of food and drinks, and changes of cloths so we could stay somewhat dry. Since it is an isolated pit, it is a very important pit to either help another team cover or get somebody to help you cover it.

Mike, I can't thank you Checkers and my fav Always Racing guys enough for everything you did to help others, espcially those two from Banning who were hypothermic, as well as entertained me all day and evening
And for the super stylish glow in the dark rain coat (no, not that kind haha!) Are you sending a crew up this year? Mike is right, it's better to plan to stay late... we got out "early" (we meaning us towing the disabled cars - everyone else was out somewhat earlier) at 10 because Casey decided to pull the cars off due to the conditions, but somewhere between 10 and 11 ish is a good guesstimate
Don't let this scare you guys off - we really have a good time there...everyone helps everyone and I can't think of a better way to meet new friends

Leave to get to the pit or get out of it? You can camp in it overnight Fri and Sat if you wish... quite a few people pull their toy haulers and trailers in there and just go camping for the weekend...

Awesome Kevin - I can't wait to see you and Wes either - actually all of you lucky souls!!! I have a small BBQ I'll bring and pick up some steaks & sides... Anyone else who feels like getting in on the impromptu BBQ feast, please feel free - You bring your meat (now, now) and I'll bring the rest
PS: Anyone have any idea what Mineral Wash is like now after all of this whacked weather? Soft? Mud? Boulders? Smooth as silk? I have to make a decision on which truck to bring, which in turns makes the decision of how many tires i can take up there
