Well... I want to race the Baja 1000, since it's point-to-point. So I figured why not go to some other SCORE races, gain a few points, and see how the year-end championship works out.

Yes... the IRC is a one-race rental. You do it again next time.

BTW, I only raced one SCORE race last year (San Felipe), but my cage inspection is due again... another 275. They spend 15 minutes poking around at the same cage they passed last year, and the year before.. and (you get it).

As for some of the other posts above, I also agree about the beauty and scenery of Baja, that's why it's my favorite. BUT... I can experience the same beauty and scenery in a cheaper race (CODE), or even a pre-run weekend. Why spend 2 or 3 grand to race (especially with a small field?) I personally don't care if Robby himself is teching in front of me, or Pistol or anyone else. It's just a line of race cars going to tech. Of course it's FUN... but so is a SNORE tech in a small mining town in Nevada!

Also, for those that say 2k is the "least of the worries, or expenses for a race team"... Not in my case, because I do as much work myself as possible. I'm prepping my own car and learning more every day about the things my father used to do. A typical race for me might involve tearing apart the broken things, putting them back together, getting a little help where needed (ring and pinion, for example).

I could spend anywhere from a few hundred to a few grand, but 2150 bucks to enter a race is not the least of MY worries. Granted, this IS a budget class! When I hear people talk about 12 grand to freshen up a TT motor... yikes!!

Well, I'll shut up now... I've said my piece. I do appreciate everyone's point-of-view. We already have a house rented, so I think we are going to go anyway, pre-run, spectate, drink some margies at Pete's, and save my $2,150 for some other things. That would buy a bunch of General Tires for the BAP!!
Still angry after all these years!

    Hey Ken,
you also have to factor in...

    Round trip to Sanfelo
Overnite for prerunning at least two days
Overnite for race at least two more days
    Eat O Rama for crew
DRINK like a fish for the crew
Bunch of 1 dollar bills for the Iguanas
    Mordidas for the fuzz
Bail outta jail for at least one crew member
Fix what you will break during prerunning and racing
Pay the guy with the tractor to pull you out of a siltbed

But, Where else will you get:

One million, six hundred thousand and thirty two whoops in all shapes and sizes
Bunch of drunk spectators thinking they are in Pamplona
Experiencing Matomi, Chanate, Huatamote, Azufre and their natural beauty, specially while waiting to get found by your crew at 2:00 A.M.
Personal handshake and good wishes from Salvatore
Rubbing elbows with the most prominent mexican agricultors and exporters
Signing autographs to kids that think youre a semi-god
Bragging about passing so and so's TT (even if it was broken down)

It is just PRICELESS, so quit whinning and do raffles, dances, sell kisses and lemonade, but, get your arse down here

I think the man is saying "MAN THIS IS EXPENSIVE!"
But, thats the price you pay for SCORE and Baja. Who hasnt come back from a good baja run and said, "Im hooked"! Just remember, use your head while your playing down there.

I'm thinking back to my first SCORE race, and I think the entry fee in 1985 was around $400 !

CODE IS HAVING A RACE IN SAN FELIPE IN APRIL. LESS THAN 500.00 DLLS TO RACE AND I BELIEVE IT WILL BE A 4 50 MILE LOOP RACE.
