the BLM needs to recognize that the racing organizations are doing all that they can to be as "green" as possible. what most people fail to remember is that most of us participate in desert clean ups, and the like. its a shame that the racers get slammed with the blame. what about the power plant in Primm?? im sure they did more damage building that plant than the racers ever will. it just sucks that we get stuck with the blame just because we don't have the money like the company that built the power plant.

I could see all the bitching if it was about big business or govt taking over the OEM's, but you are all taking it out on FIAT. We need to step up and move if we have to, big deal. Racers have probably the biggest male genitalia as it is, 1 (unsmogged)racer, 5 dames chasing, tons of spectators..etc. I can commend sanctions like PLAYBOY and PENTHOUSE who will do everything possible to make a buck, but then there's rags like HUSTLER who dont give a f and make crotches 6 ft wide. Lets just examine another crotch for a trophy!

Remember seeing horny dudes and foxes at discos? Well, they're gone, too. Its a privilege to dance, not a right. You can write all the letters you want and it aint gonna do S! It takes ONE rapper to stop a dance, just 1. Political Correctness first, dancing second.
There! Fix...Well, I TRIED to fix it.

What's the story with the Ivanpah Valley Airport, "due in 2018"? Wouldn't that be built ON TOP of tortoise dens.

The mountains edge tortoise population was moved to a "safe area". The safe area had a large fox and coyote population. The turtles became food for said foxes and coyotes. Strong work by BLM. There is an article about it. I am trying to find it. Email sent and a formal lettter sent up the chain to federal level.

Let me be the first to appologize to you for hitting that poor defensless tree last year in Caliente. I'm sure YOU felt the shock waves all the way at your establishment. Now please no more support comments for the people who are trying to end the great sport that we all love and compete in!

Re: Get Ready...Racing in Nevada Is Over As We Know It...

Thanks Jamie for the heads up. I borrowed some of your letter and sent my own below. Obviously this is just another excuse to close the desert to off-road vehicles with no real concern for the existence or fate of the tortoises.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I am a California resident that makes the trip to Nevada to recreate off-road at least 5 times a year. I spend an average of 14 days a year in Nevada either riding my motorcycle, or off-road car racing. Now the BLM is talking about a seasonal closure of one of the most popular racing areas with absolutely no documentation of what effect desert racing has on the tortoise population or even an estimate of how many tortoises reside in the areas you are trying to close to racing. From my understanding, Jean is classified by US Fish and Wildlife as a low tortoise population area.

California closed over 7 million acres to off-road vehicle activity to "save the tortoise" with no documentation that the tortoise population was being threatened by off-road vehicles. Now in fact after closing these lands, the tortoise population is even smaller than before, not because of off-road vehicles, but because the tortoise is threatened by raven predation and respiratory disease. Yet no efforts at all have been made to stem the real cause of tortoise decline.

I see this latest attempt in Nevada to close the desert to off-road racing as just another way for BLM "environmentalists" to close the desert due to a personal bias toward off-road vehicles. This closure has no basis in scientific fact or even desire to save the tortoises.

Without exact data regarding tortoise numbers, how can you possibly justify closing these areas to off-road racing? I would like a response to my questions and points made in this email.

    Sincerely,

    Alan Roach

Re: Get Ready...Racing in Nevada Is Over As We Know It...

Feels like we're all kind of lobbing arrows at a tank and it feels a little hopeless but I feel better about making an attempt at least to fight back rather then rolling over and dying.

This issue here is a whole other issue that will require a vastly more detailed response to deal with adequately I think but in the short term, I did want to mention that I'm in the process of putting together a form letter in response to the public scoping on the revision to the Nevada RMP (basically the formal 10 year outline of use of ALL public land).

Public scoping is open until the end of Feb so I'm currently drafting up a form letter that I'll be taking to tech at BAP to set up shop in the hopes of getting 1,000+ signed and sent to the Southern Nevada BLM office.

It may be a moot point in the long run but the goal is to maximize the psychological impact of massing letters versus sending a handful of emails or even a 5 or 6 page petition.

Small change at this point I know but once I get the letter done and reviewed by the interested parties I'll start a new thread about it. Bottom line is I'm putting everyone on notice here to make sure they come by and visit me at BAP tech and sign one of these bad boys so we can flood the Southern Nevada BLM office with letters voicing our displeasure.

Re: Get Ready...Racing in Nevada Is Over As We Know It...

This is the same thing we have seen time and again from BLM and other agencies. They violate their own rules, make arbitrary decisions and expect people to just take it. This could literally take years to resolve if it has to go to court. The silliness with the plants in the Imperial Sand Dunes is still ongoing after more than ten years.
