Gear Ratio Opinions Please
1450 Truck, 5000 lbs +or-, 450 HP 383, 37 BFG's, pretty tall truck.
We went from 5:47's to 5.14's and it dosen't want to pull high gear too well. It went 105 on a smooth graded road, but dosn't pull well in high in softer terrain or whoops.

Change the final drive gear in the tranny would be the only thing i can see, unless you want to go back with a lower r/p

Well that does seem like a canundrum. You could go with more torque out of the motor instead of hp. Torque is your power and hp is how fast you can make it so more torque more top end speed. Thats essentially what you took away by going with a taller gear, less mechanical advantage at the wheel for the motor would require more torque to over come it. Higher stall torque converter?

35" tires would probably help.

Coming from a drag race back ground yoou could also put the piggy on a diet. Drive shaft, more fiberglass/carbon fiber, remove anything that you dont need structurally/tools/makes it go, extra engine accessories, wire looms, etc.

Re: Gear Ratio Opinions Please
Inour 1450 truck I gear it to top about 90 do to the fact that unless you are racing MDR north the courses never really allow you to do much more. I know alot of other 1450 guys do that too. throw some 5.67's in that b%$*h and let her rev. Our truck is 4000lbs on 33's with about 300hp and I run a 5.27. On Matt Torain's truck which is 4600lbs on 35's with 380ish hp he runs a 5.27. hope this hepls.I personally think with your wieght and tires a 5.67 would be good. I know of 550hp trucks on 37's that run 5.47's and wish they could go more but they run a 10inch so thats the biggest gear you can get
