Fuel line fittings. . .pushloc. . .probably a really stupid easy question

This is probably a really stupid, easy question but. . .

. . .I'm running a new fuel system and I'm using Push-Loc hose with Push-Loc fitings which I've never used befofe. . .I got to thinking after I put all the fittings and hose together. . .do I need to use hose clamps on these fittings? They are triple barb fittings, but that doesn't necessarily mean they were designed to be used without a hose clamp.

    Thanks for helping me out!

Anytime you use push-loc hose for a pressure application, hose clamps should be mandatory.

Re: Fuel line fittings. . .pushloc. . .probably a really stupid easy question

That's what I thought. . .I just wasn't sure and I didn't want to spend the time putting hose clamps on the entire fuel system and then someone look at it and be like. . .Why did you do that???

I'm always a fan of better safe than sorry, but I also don't want to waste any time or money (not that it takes that much of either for hose clamps) on unnecessary stuff.

    Thanks for confirming my thoughts!

we don't use clamps on our oil lines, and haven't for 4 years.. They make a metal band clamp, that i install with a cv boot clamp crimper..

The fittings are designed to be used without clamps but nobody will blame you if you put clamps on them. I used push lock on our entire oil system before I switched to dry sump with no problems. I use them on all my fuel lines as well.

I'm not using them on the oil system since I don't have any external oil lines on this rig. . .it's all fuel line & fittings. . .I just got back from picking some hose clamps up and will be installing them today. . .just in case. . .

Just mentioned oil because the return in the oil system has more press. Than your mechanical fuel system... We don't use clamps on our fuel lines either.. Also a cool trick for assembly, is to take a plug of each size and weld them to a piece of flat bar .25 x 2, then clamp it in a vise.. Now you thread your fitting on the plug, and you can push the hose on easier... Then pull on your hose & if you can't pull it off, then the pressure in the system will never blow it off..

Re: Fuel line fittings. . .pushloc. . .probably a really stupid easy question

I definitely can't pull the hose off the fittings. . .I already tried once. . .I thought that I had put a wrong fitting somewhere, turns out it was OK, but I wasn't getting that hose fitting off.

Good idea for installing the hose. . .I have the hose installation tool and it works great. . .but it only works for straight fittings not for 90* or 45* fittings.

Makes me feel better thinking about the "if I can't pull it off, then a couple of psi isn't going to dislodge it".

Re: Fuel line fittings. . .pushloc. . .probably a really stupid easy question

i warm the hose up a bit with a heat gun. helps it slide on big time.
i've used a safety wire wrap in between the barbs before for a just in case senario. i have never been able to pull one apart by hand on ones with out. the wire is more for my own over kill i guess.

a worm gear hose clamp concerns me a bit that you will be putting so much external pressure on the barb edge that you could weaken the structure of the hose. clamps are usually wider than the gap between the barbs.

Re: Fuel line fittings. . .pushloc. . .probably a really stupid easy question

I've decided not to use the hose clamps. . .if they were designed to be used without them and I can't pull them off then I'm not gonna stress over it.

    Thanks!
