im looking for pics, rear suspension pics of 89-95 toyota 4x4 chassis's. pics of and or info about mounting techniques, spring angles, shackle lengths, drive shaft plunge measurements and so on. so if you have mounted up some 61.5" Deavers or similar National leafs, maybe a bit shorter. any info would be appreciated. i need help in designing my set up properly (i got a set of 58.5" Nationals). also shock angles and lengths that you guys have run. i have 16"s now. thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

i'll take some pics for ya this weekend, as my camera batteries are currently dead...62's on a 2wd 88 yota...here's your chance to place your order...what exactly do you want? or if you wanna come look, i'm in buena park, not too far from ya...
yeah gary, your right down the street from my hood. maybe i will drop by. ill PM you to get your number as i dont have it any longer. basically i came across a rare set of leafs that were originally built for a dual shackle set up on a 4 link of an old retired race truck. they are an odd length (58.5") they cycle over 17 inches which is rad, but basically the way i have it mocked up right now im getting over 2" of drive shaft plunge and i dont like that. after talking to a few people i think i now know what i need to do to lessen this(dropping the front perch a bit and raising the shackle perch also with an appropriately lengthened shackle). even though my truck is a 4wd chassis, i have a 2wd trans in it, so i dont have the slip yoke 2 piece drive shaft, i have the 2wd front slip yoke set up. if i cant eliminate alot of this i will drill and tap the output shaft on the trans and bolt on a transfer case front yoke and make a 2 piece drive shaft. so basiclly i just wanted to see how other people mounted their leafs so i could compare em to how i have mine right now.
just curious if the center pin isn't quite right for a yota set up? maybe that's part of the cause of the problem? drtdevil needs to chime in here, on the effects of axle location on a spring...i think i've got about an inch of plunge on mine...
driveshaft plunge is something leaf spring trucks really cant get rid of. the goal is to get it down as little as possible. i have mine down to about 1.5" (with 19" vertical). i couldve set it up for less, but i had other things in mind. definitely go with the 2 piece setup. anaheim gear made the yoke for mine. having a reversed eye helps too, as it pushes the axle back at droop, and pulls it forward on compression. and like you said, lowering the front perch will help out, just watch out for the negative arch!! too much and your springs will never last. the longer the front section is, the lower the front hanger will be, helping with plunge, but still watch the negative arch at bump. you might consider lowering the hanger a bit, and limiting uptravel off by the same amount. keep the negative arch to less than 1.5" if you can.
Heres a pic of the rear spring mounts on my truck. The front perch is in the stock location. The spring is the stock length in front of the axle and extended about 4 inches behind the axle....for a total length of about 55"....I use a 1 piece drive shaft have about 15.5 inches of travel and have never had a problem in 5 years of hard life on the truck...including three races and who knows how many miles of prerunning....I'm still on the same leaf springs...just been rebuilt a few times by eric. I have a friend who mounted a set of 57.5 inch springs in his toyota, also keeping front perch in the stock location...it just ends up moving the axle back about 4 inches...worked out really good...he just had to have the bedside extended a little to make it look right....and ofcourse get a new drive shaft made.
one more thing...in the pic there is only a 6" shackle on truck...about a year ago I went to a 8" shackle to get up to the 15" of travel.
and I know 15" doesn't sound like much...but trust me...It can be made to work... I've passed more than a couple trucks with the 62" springs during races.
thanks, fish, greg, gary, erik, jkrell, and a few others. i was able to get my issues pretty ironed out today. got the plunge down to 1.5". im ok with that, so i think ill be ok.
