    Mass air flow sensor....?

Hey all. I got a new filter for my 91 yota 4 banger for xmas and i was told that the mass flow sensor should hook up to it somewhere. However, there is no input whatsoever on the filter itself, nor on the little connector. My question is, has anyone upgrade from the stock air box to a new filter before? if so where does the mass aif flow senor go? any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!.

P/S: attached is a piciture of the filter.

If you buy the air filter ''kit'' from K&N (the one that replaces the factory air cleaner housing), the kit includes a round flanged plate that bolts to the mass air flow sensor then the K&N air filter fits onto the flanged plate.

Maybe you can try contacting K&N or Performance Products http://www.performanceproducts.com and see if you can get more info on the plate.

    Re: Mass air flow sensor....?

One last thing, there is a tube that runs into the stock air box, and after puttin in the new filter the tube will just be laying there, however the tube takes in clean air from the box, is it ok to have straight air running throught it or am i missing something?
    -thanks

hey are u talking about the tube that attaches right behind the grill. If u are that is the intake tube for the air filter, u will no longer need that upon replacing ur air box. So u can just remove that. It just kinda pushes into the hole on the firewall.

Well, i left the intake connecting to the MAS in place, but there is a second tube that goes into the air box, but no longer has a place to fit. Maybe this picture can help a little bit. The tube I am talking about is lying right beside the filter in the pic. Previous to the installation, the tube sat on the upper portion of the box, so it was recieving filtered air. Now, there is no filter fitting for it and it just sits there.

where is the other end of that tube attached ? Sometimes the OE's attach such a tube that is a dead end. The point of them is to cure a resonance problem they felt would be objectionable. If this is the case you can just remove it.

The most likely other option is that it is for the crankcase ventilation in which case you'll want to get one of K&N's little filters with a hose bib on it to put in the end of the tube.

That is a smog tube but I can't remember what for, it's an air bypass I think. On downey's big aribox there is a barb that goes on the top plate that it would connect to. I'll look at the 4 runner(same concept as the 22re) tomorrow and see what it connects to and get back to you...Curt

Cool that would help a lot. After looking at the end it does connect to something, but I'm not quite sure what is it. I need to use my truck, so I made a little cheapy filter to fit it in the meantime, and i noticed that there's a loud noise coming from the hose. Kinda sounds like a rice burner muffler It makes the noise with or without my filter contraption. Once agian, thanks for the help!
