    rack size for ranger

    Hi there

i am about to redo all my steering on my a arm ranger the factory rack just is not cutting it anymore for the speeds the truck has been seeing lately. i am considering the howe 2.5'' rack with a 1450psi pump but have been considering going to the 3'' ram version same amount of travel as the smaller rack but has a 3'' ram intead but acording to jeff @Howe i would have to step up into the big tt pump which is alot more money thanthe 1450 pump. so in a nutshell i have two routes i am considering.one is a complete 2.5'' rack with 1450 pump, sweet c/v ,howe pully and rersivor, cooler or i go with the bigger 3'' system with all a lil bigger parts and a huge pump but overall its going to cost me about a grand more out of pocket to go with the 3'' system. i really want to do this once and right i would think the 2.5 would be fine for my application but i am getting so many mixed reviews i dont know what i should go for. just looking for some personal expierence with both systems and what you guys think as far as what i will need and how much difference would i feel between the two.the truck is fully built with camburg lt kit with there 3 link 3'' bypasses on each corner 35'' tires with a built 4.0 sohc. plans down the road for it will def be a ls engine with a turbo 400 on 37'' tires also the truck has a 50/50 balance when race ready and full or fuel and spares total wieght is 4800 lbs

    thank you

    Buy the big parts now.

I dont think the smaller set up will push the bigger tires down the road. Just speculation tho.

    any other people?

i am having a hard time justifying the 3.0 set up with having to spend another thousand to go that route the power steering pump for the 3.0 is a $1000 compared to $250 with the 2.5. anyone have an idea if its even needed and would the gain of a 3.0 even be used to its potential with a smaller truck.

Last time I herd, for the big pump, Howe uses a modified gm pump. I think it comes off a school bus.
