    #902 updates

Had some suspension problems last race front and rear. So,
I have installed a new front beam, reworked torsion housing, new uper and lower rear shock mounts, (small geometry change). New top stops and limiting strap setup. And a whole new rear section engine cage.(please don't nerf)
I'm looking forward to the new season!

    Re: #902 updates

Well, Since I have had the car I never felt that the front suspension was working properly. And after this last race I knew it wasn't ! Pulled the front beam and it was bent, and not allowing the springs to work right. It had seen better days.
As far as the rear torsion housing it also was bent and although it still allowed movement we oped to re-work it and went with some new parts.
Just thinking back to when I first met up with Rob Strap and showed him his old car, he coudn't belive it still had the same front beam on it!
So, I hope the new mods will help me go faster in my next race? At least it will be a smoother ride? (if there is such a thing in a nine car!)
Hope to meet some of you 9 guys next time out. Seems at the last two races I had to either go out to pick up the car or work on the motorhome (bad alt) after the races....

    That's "Rob Stapp"
I have got to agree with Scott on this one! The car was perfect when we raced it and won two MORE Chamionships but since then it has been THrAsHeD!
So giving that it's a 27 year old Chenowth 1000 frame it's probably time to bring it up to date. Sandy Parker would roll-over in his grave if he knew that his original Challenger set up was being trashed! He always kept the car in top condition, perfectly prepped and set up. I learned everything I know about nine car racing from Sandy and he was the best. I know that with the new mods Scott can very likely learn to run up front with the best of them! Good luck... Re: #902 updates

HEY ROB, TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT WAS TRASHED ON THE CAR. SEEMS FOR A CAR THAT WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION I SURE HAD TO DO A LOT OF WORK ON IT WHEN I GOT IT. THE BEAM WAS REMOVED AND CHECKED AFTER EVERY RACE AND NOTHING WAS EVER WRONG WITH IT, SO WHY REPLACE IT? AND THE SUSPENSION ALWAYS WORKED FINE FOR ME, CAN'T FIGURE WHY SCOTT WANTS TO RUIN A GOOD SETUP. THE CAR WAS ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENT CARS OUT THERE, ONLY ONE DNF WHILE I HAD IT. HAD EVERYTHING MAGGED AND REPLACED BEFORE I SOLD THE CAR TO SCOTT. SO HE GOT IT IN RACE READY CONDITION. IF YOU'VE GOT A PROBLEM AND THINK I SOLD YOU A PIECE OF CRAP, JUST CALL ME AND SAY SO.

    Ken,
Don't take it the wrong way, I got the car from you race ready and anything that was "thrashed" on the car was my doing from that first Barstow race!
I hope that I have not started something here and by no means feel that I bought anything but a great race ready car from you!
    I'll give you a call....

    Re: #902 updates

Ken - Whoa! Don't take an offense to my statement that the car was thrashed! I was not attacking you or your ability to keep the car race ready. Your idea and my idea of a car that is or is not in top shape and race ready my be very different! I do though specifically remember that when I sold the car to you 2 years ago it was not prepped or race ready and the Front Beam was bent and cracked and had been repaired after the last few races we ran it. I made sure you knew this fact and that the Beam needed to be replaced before you raced it! It would never have passed my prep standards for even one more race. and you tell me that you raced it with the very same worn-out beam for several more races is a miracle it stayed together that much longer.
When Scott brought it out to test before his first race I noticed that it had this same Beam on as well as virtually no other major improvements to the frame and suspension. I did notice the shock work and the New Trans. but other than that it appeared to me to be in need of some work and repairs. Again that is my opinion and may have not been yours! Scott did ran into some problems that cost him two races that should have never been a factor if the parts had been checked or replaced during previous preps. I'm glad you got some great seat time and learning in that car. It was and can still be a winning car for Scott for some time to come! It's great to see the car still out there giving the competition a run for their money!
I hope you have a great year racing your new 1600! Let us know how your races go and hope to see you at a MORE race this coming year. good luck and Happy New Year! Rob S.

    Re: #902 updates

I have nothing to say about the 902 car except that I have seen it when Sandy drove it, when Rob had it, I met Ken at Henderson tech and saw it, and saw it at the last more race when Scott was driving it. It has always been a bulletproof car that is getting old but still steady which is really amazing for a car that old. And I know that by basically pulling out at Henderson after getting tagged by a couple 1 cars that Ken didn't want to be selling a trashed car and/or spending the money to make the car nice again before selling it, which makes plenty of sense to me.

What I really want to know is where Scott got the new beam. Mine has been through 2 rollovers now and will be getting replaced after the next race. Did you just go to a junkyard? I don't think we can buy aftermarket ones in 9.
