Amy and I were not at the SF 250, but what an awesome weekend!!!
The El Centro Naval Air Station featured the Blue Angles and a TON of other air planes and helicopters at their annual Air Show this weekend. In addition to the amazing display of Naval military technology and fire power there was a group of off road racers that took time out of their busy schedules to say “thank you” and lend their support to the great men and women serving our country at the El Centro Naval Air Station.
The El Centro Navy has a close knit family of motocross riders and off road fans, and with the Plaster City OHV area just a stones throw from the Navy base the air show was a perfect opportunity for the off road community to share a great day with an incredible group of Navy folks.
Saturday began early (for us civilian folks anyway!). Racers began arriving with smiles on their faces and race trailers in tow. Terry & Judy Tolbert, Trevor Klat and Dan Unsicker, Leon Perrault (sp?), Eddie Zeller and his son Beetle, Ben Abatti and his son Ben III, and El Centro Ford all made it out with off road vehicles to display for the Navy.
The Navy guys had everything incredibly well laid out and organized (no surprise).
All the racers positioned their cars under a MASSIVE military canopy and once the public began showing up on base, there was a steady stream of people looking over all the cool vehicles.
Even the Blue Angles thought the off road vehicles were amazing!!! I'm not sure, but I think Trevor may have struck a deal with one of the pilots for a ride-for-ride trade.....
The DRIVE Volunteer team was there too!
The Tolberts, Trevor Klat and the Unsickers spent the WHOLE DAY getting kids into their race vehicles. It made for a pretty special day for a lot of people
Just a few shots of the El Centro Navy guys that pulled this whole thing off! Thanks to Jerrod Storm and James Cunningham and the whole STRKFIGHTWING PAC Maintenance Unit for giving the off road community the chance to show their appreciation of the military.
Thank you to all the service men and women that commit so much to keeping our country safe and secure, and a HUGE thank you to the off road community that showed up to support the Navy and represent our sport as something more than just a desert hobby.
This weekend was a gathering of our off road extended family. To each of the racers and their families that spent the day making all of the off road fans at the Air Show feel welcome as they crawled all over and gawked at you vehicles, Thank you! You guys were incredible and your personalities and spirit are something that we are all very proud of.
Until the next race......
-Brian & Amy
