After a full year break from racing to improve our racecar and with one afternoon of minimal prerunning to see some of the new section our small sparsely supported team returned to the picturesque yet hostile deserts of San Felipe for the 2010 ‘250.
This was my third consecutive run of the San Felipe 250, each time handling the driving rights solo the entire way, in a car of our design and construction and without power steering.
We found this years course to be exceptionally challenging between the miles of silt shredded by the earlier unlimited classes, the newly rain sculpted boulder riddled washes, and the relentless brutal whoops.
Starting first of the line in class we leap frogged with Gustavo Aviña and Alonso Angulo until Laguna Diablo, where we only three finishers held our order until the end, putting us in second place behind Aviña.
The majority of our delay behind first can be attributed to down time caused by a toasted ignition coil that took a few minutes to remedy and the frustration of slogging through and getting stuck in a few extra soft spots. We escaped without any flats (with some luck) and had no other major problems.
We are ecstatic with our first podium finish (2nd place) at our 4th ever race and hope to continue our improvement trend into the 500, and 1000 later this year.
Me gustaría agradecer a mi familia/equipo, mis amigos, Sal y SCORE, los otros corredores de 5/1600, y la ciudad de San Felipe. ¡Muchas Gracias!
P.S. We hope to have some incar footage compiled together shortly to share so stay tuned.
