Exactly, as long as there is $$ being given out by tire companies it will ALWAYS be the best tire is whoever you are running lol.
BUT without question General Tire has stepped it WAY up with their support of the Mint!!!

Yeah, GT does nothing to support the racers, other than of course giving everyone who runs Generals free pit support thru Baja Pits. How many BFG pits are there compared to Baja Pits? Baja Pits has helped us out big time repeatedly in the past get our truck to the finish and all that support was paid for by GT. But I guess since they didn't bring a tire changer out there they don't support the racers. Please, there probably wouldn't even have been a race if not for GT.
This post isn't about who makes the best tire, just a rebuttal to anybody who thinks GT doesn't support their troops. Two years ago these tires didn't exist and now they have a program that not only has stepped up to the big leagues of our sport but one which strives to get better every single race. Think about how far the program has come in the last two years and think about if it keeps improving at that rate where its going to be another year or so in the future. I say "great job GT!", and keep up the good work.

I have to commend General for paying for all the Baja Pits for their racers. This is very expensive. It also makes or breaks some racers. A neccessity for grassroots racers.Madprops to GT for doing this.

Re: What was the Best tire for the mint 400
The BEST tires are the one you have. Period. For some of us, just getting enough tires on the rack to feel comfortable going to a 400 mile race is a major undertaking (a lot of begging, pleading, bartering and buying other peoples take offs just so you can have enough)
I only accomplished one (1) lap and I had one (1) flat. and I think the tire survived. The wheel however, doesn't look so much like a wheel anymore. (driver/ power steering error) By the way, this tire is a no-name brand 7.00-15 trailer tire and that's ALL I use on the front and they are the most trouble free tires I run!!! (Cheap too)
If every one was TRULY honest, I would be willing to bet that 95% of ALL flats are driver error.
We can sit here all day and argue who's tire is better and it is pointless. What we CAN do, is say things like, "It was so cool that Yokahama was there supporting the race and helping everybody out changing tires, ....etc" or how about "Man, it is so awesome that General Tire sure sponsored a great race, and I'm so glad that they have thrown their hat back into the ring to create a little competition in the Off Road tire department" or maybe just "Wow, it's so cool that BFG is STILL producing great off road tires that are time tested and proven winners, not to mention the overall support they give at the races"
How about the flipside of this debate - "Man, I am so BUMMED that Mickey Thompson has PULLED completely out of the off road racing scene"
I can't count the number of times that a thread like this comes along and people start debating on which tire is better, it's foolishness. As far as I'm concerned, I'm glad they are all out there and involved in the sport I love the most!
Carry On!

Re: What was the Best tire for the mint 400
Great job to GT for building a tire in the last 2 years that has been good and getting better. Also thanks for Sponsoring the race, alot of good parties and a great race. Great job to BFG for having a great tire for so long.
All the tire trailers were in tech mounting tires for people, why couldnt they stay for another day and bring there semi, trailer, box truck whatever they had out to the track and set it up for show or to help out if anyone needed help. I havent seen that happen at any race, Score, Snore BITD anything. GT was sponsoring the race why couldnt they have had there trailer out there for publicity and help out. I would of.
Thanks to Troy for helping out changing all the tires for everyone (for free)
Yoko brings there semi out to help the DA but we always have a tire machine on it just incase anyone needs help, even in Mexico. We will help any tire manufacture. If i brought a different tire to BFG and asked them to mount it do you think they would do it? I dont think so. Desert racing is a family sport and everyone should help eachother out to get someone racing again, thats why we will help any car (even in the same class) with any tire on it to help them get going. I know some pits you pull into they will not even look at you if you have a different llanta on it.
Lets all help each other out at the races and have some fun.
Let drop this thread and move on and go to the next race.

Re: What was the Best tire for the mint 400
This thread really is a joke...
If you drove around the Mint this year you would have seen tires everywhere and the brand I noticed more was NOT General if was small buggy tires from another brand. I would say this is because there were way more buggies and people running this brand on their buggies. The only General Tire I saw on the course in the first two laps was off of BJ's truck and the tire still had air in it...
People should really be supporting General Tire and I feel everyone who races or is a off-road race fan should be sending the people at General a Thank you letter. They are putting more money into this sport than anyone right now. If I am wrong please show me.
General stepped in with SNORE and brought back the MINT. They are now the official Tire of BITD. They are supporting more drivers and advertising our sport to the masses more than any other company out there period! Do we have any factory backed teams any more? Yes by General Tire.
General Tire makes an outstanding product that has proven to be at the top of the game. If you look at General Tire since they have been back (just a few years) they have been on the podium in multiple classes at just about every race. This says something as they are on less than 5% of the race vehicles out there.
Now I will be the first to say THANK YOU GENERAL TIRE!!!!!!
