Rental Car Rally (The Ghetto Cannonball Run) HELL YES!!!

This idea showed up after an Email from Greg Calvert AKA "Double G"...

It is called "The Rental Car Rally"....

This is basically a ghetto fabulous version of the "Cannonball Run"

Rental Car Rally: LA to Tombstone

    Friday, June 18, 2010 at 9:00 PM - Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 2:00 AM (PT)

RCR is a single leg competitive road trip in which teams of costumed players compete for cash and prizes. There is no set route, but each team must hit pre-defined checkpoints, the locations of which will be provided in the rally booklet provided at the starting line. Each team must provide photographic evidence of each checkpoint. Teams are scored by a combination of odometer reading, team style, and hijinks...

    What are the Rules?
Hit the checkpoints. Be awesome. That is all.
    Scoring
RCR scoring is by a 100pt scale, and judged by these wonderful maths:
    Odometer [50pts]
We take your odometer reading at the start and finish lines. Choose the shortest routes between checkpoints. Points are awarded on a sliding scale: the lowest reading gets 50pts, while progressively higher readings receive progressively fewer points.
    Team Style [40pts]
Style is judged by originality of the costumes and attention to costume detail, plus metaphorical consistency between the costume and the team's rally vehicle. The 30pts are split evenly between personal costumes (15pts) and vehicle (15pts).
    Freelance [10pts]
Whether jumping a canyon or robbing a bank, spectacular feats of daring-do will earn your team up to 10pts.

    FAQ

What's included in the price of my ticket?
The ticket includes admission to the rally, the rally briefcase for your team (the rally booklet w/ rules and coordinates for checkpoints, the rally contact sheet w/ info on other drivers, bottle rockets, smoke bombs, condoms, cigarettes, chaw), a rally pre-party and drink specials before the rally begins, a post-rally party at the destination, and the chance to win money, the respect of your competitors, and a golden gas pump.
Can I use my own car?
    Yes.
How many people to a team?
    As many as you want.
    How long is the drive?
Route times vary from rally to rally, but total drive time is usually around 12 hours.
    What are the checkpoints?
The checkpoints will be printed in each rally driving booklet given to each team at the rally starting line.
    Is GPS necessary?
    No, but it helps.
Where are the starting and finish lines?
The starting line will be revealed one week prior to the rally start. The finish line will be revealed in the rally booklet each team gets at the starting line.
Are accommodations included in the ticket?
    No.
How much will all this cost?
After your ticket, you're looking at about $100 in gas plus food and your hotel room.

Basic Team Ticket (The Wheelman) $179.00

** You do NOT need to rent a car -- you may use your own **

RCR is a weekend-long, backroads-mostly driving competition between 100+ crazily-festooned teams competing for thousands of dollars in cash and a golden gas pump.
The rally starts 9pm Friday, June 18th at an undisclosed location in LA. Teams will navigate their way to Tombstone, Arizona, hitting mandatory checkpoints along the way, including a ghost town by a fetid sea, and at least one drive thru stripper club. The finish line in Tombstone is a sawdust and suds-filled saloon, where we'll party our faces off and stroke each others' ridiculous mustaches.detr
RCR will crown two winning teams in Tombstone: a Grand Champion, and a Style Champion. Both teams get a golden gas pump, but only the grand champ gets the cash prize.

    Your ticket includes:

    1. admission to the rally
    2. rally provisions bag for your team (the rally booklet w/ rules & coordinates for checkpoints, a rally contact sheet w/ info on other drivers, fireworks, smoke bombs, chaw, energy drinks, condoms, etc)
    3. a party in LA a few days before the rally w/ sweet, sweet drink specials
    4. a party in Tombstone with beer and liquor and the fellowship of your neighbors
    5. the chance to win the rally grand prize and the golden gas pump

    Your ticket does not include:

    1. a rental car or vehicle, or fuel
    2. accommodations in Tombstone, unless you purchase the Captain Chaos or Jason Statham tickets.

The Team UNDERGROUND entry is paid and I booked the biggest suites in the hotel across from the "Crystal Palace Saloon" (formerly owned by Wyatt Earp) in Tombstone AZ . Supposedly these get like a hundred plus entries and Tombstone is a little town so I wanted to make sure we had a good place to party when we win this bish. Beyond the fact we are entered, we are keeping quiet about our plans so none of you guys can use our own tricks against us.

Curtis is putting a team together and Kartman is entered also and we look forward to making their efforts look foolish.

So anyone else got the sack to go up the Mighty UNDERGROUND?

I honestly think you need to read into the rules, if says each team must provide photographic evidence of meeting the check point. Does that mean you or your entire team have to be in the pictures or does that mean that you just have to have a photo of the checkpoint. If so I think splitting a team in two would be best have one vehicle with 2 team members drive straight from LA to Tombstone in the team vehicle with the shortest mileage not going to any checkpoints. Have the other half of the team run the checkpoints and get the photos. And meet in Tombstone....

Another thing to think about. Finding a truck that originally had 31" tires or something on it that now has 37" tires on it. The odometer reads less mileage then what you are actually traveling. I know on that in my F-150 originally with 31's now has 37's reads less. For every 90 miles my odometer reads I have actually driven 100 miles....

    Just thinking out loud....

Awesome. So glad to know how honest a future used car salesman is when it comes to mileage. "PMC, where the miles for the inventory on our lot are prolly within ten percent of the actual mileage..." LOL

i can't wait to see the costumes. the rallyists on race-dezert.com participating in this are some of the strangest folks on the planet and i think i can speak for the rdc regulars and lurkers alike when i say good luck and we're not only expecting, but demanding a podium sweep for rdc teams in this thing. nothing else will do..this rally is made for all of you. make sure you show up on the right day teenagers. hide the women folk and children.
"so that's your wife? last time i saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it".........rodney dangerfield RIP....
