Dodge Driveline wobble
I have tried some of the diesel forums without much luck so I thought I would post my issue here. I have a new to me 2005 QC short bed 4WD diesel that has a driveline wobble at about 64 mph. By reading other forums, it sounds like the long beds are easily cured with a one piece aluminum drive shaft conversion. Unfortunately, no one seems to have an answer for the SB that already has a one piece shaft. I had the tires balanced, removed the front shaft, etc. etc. vibe is still there. Anyone have PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with this? I am going to go ahead and get the rear shaft balanced but have been told by several people it will not help. Next, I was going to have a custom aluminum unit made. Any thoughts?
Actually, winning IS everything!

Re: Dodge Driveline wobble
I have a friend who had this issue. After several attempts with the dealer, he went to an independent shop. The mechanic there was familiar with this issue and determined that the rear axle was actually installed off center and corrected it. No issues since. My understanding is that this problem is unique to trucks with auto transmissions.

I've personally fixed 2 or 3 with this same problem by having an aluminum shaft made. Less weight = less inertia which = less vibration. Keep in mind these were unlifted trucks though. If yours is lifted you may have to have a CV shaft made to get the operating angles back in line.

Re: Dodge Driveline wobble
A decent front track bar has fixed the problem for some folks, including myself. Another possible cause for the wobble is the transfer case needing service. There's been a number of cases of the transfer case grenading led by an increased vibration. So maybe try to determine where the vibration is originating.
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough.

Re: Dodge Driveline wobble
Ive ran into this problem also, one thing that happens is the front axle is live meaning no locking or unlocking hubs causing the front driveline to spin all the time making the truck have a slight rumble or vibration in the floor board. Try pulling your front driveline (it wont hurt anything and its free to check) then drive your truck at the same speed again.

Re: Dodge Driveline wobble
Got to love the full time dodge stuff- any lift will excite the front shaft - fixing that is interesting . There are issue's with the 2 piece shafts in the rear where after 8" or so they start making noises , where a superduty with 3" s of lift will do that same 2009 and up are worse . If the front is having issues A dual c/v is usually the best fix , Or buying a hub conversion is nice also- Its silly to have full time -I thought we got that out of our system in 1970 come awne guys- Jess
