    safety harness mounting

score book says "all belt must be mounted directly to a main structure member
of the same size specification as the roll cage" then a sentence later it says
"mounting hardware must utilize at least .312" steel bolts with 1.5" diameter
washers attached through the body or frame"...

...so whats the story, what am i missing something?
your words cut like the razor sharp shards of a broken dodge axle housing...

the big washers is for the lap belts to the floor. and if you drill the tubing to put bolts in for mounting. most weld the mounts or do the wrap.

this goes against the first part of his statement, "all belt must be mounted directly to a main structure member
of the same size specification as the roll cage"

so they cannot be mounted to the floor according to the rules. hence the point of his question.

    Re: safety harness mounting

As a thought, wouldn't that be the difference between "space-frame" and "monocoque" construction mounting criteria? If space-frame construction, the rollcage is an intergral part of the frame rails of the vehicle but if using a unibody construction, the body or exterior of the vehicle becomes a structural component... In a unibody application, wouldn't you need a lap belt mounting option that would allow the belt to be mounted in the correct location? Also, if your seats are mounted to the unibody portion, mounting your lap belt also to it would allow the seat/harness to "move" as a unit in an impact. Just a thought.

so there are classes in "SCORE" that do not need a cage? I agree with what your saying, but this about the SCORE rule book, vice other forms of racing.

Remember, Score has and/or had classes for all manner of vehicles including VW Bugs, Camaros, Saabs etc. and all manner of trucks and buggies...so the rulebook has a certain amount of adaptability built into it...bottom line, if the rulebook said to bolt your belts in with rubberbands and paper clips, would you do it? Be smart, check with your safety equipment supplier (I recommend Harold at Parker Pumper) for clear and proper information...
