Re: I have a serious gas problem !!
One word "BEANO".
Most use the 25/75 Carbon Dioxide and argon mixture. Just pre-heat before welding cromo.

Yes, use 25\75 if you have a dedicated mig bottle. Some use 100% argon if sharing bottle between tig and mig machines.

We had a problem with are mix gas and our gas rep. told us to roll the bottle on the floor for a minute to blend the gases back together and it welded fine after that.

For MIG: Argon/Carbon Dioxide mixture "SteelMix" or similar. For TIG: 100% Argon. My bottles are NOT shared between MIG/TIG, you can search the internet as to pros/cons either way and make up your own mind.

No need to pre-heat (or post-heat treat) chromoly if you are staying under 1/4". . .
. . .and most (including myself) use the 75/25 blend for MIG welding.

Rolling bottles. interesting, I thought that was only for tri mix, for welding stainless. Thought it was the helium that seperated. That might be good practice, because I have big bottles and dont weld very often.

wow! For the life of me I couldnt figure out why my little miller would bubble and act like it was the wrong gas or no gas at all! rolling the bottle huh? Now that I think about it every time it did that its after it was sitting in the corner of the shop for a while. I hardly use it except for sheet metal or tacking stuff together when my 210 is being used....... So 25/75 can seperate in the bottle? interesting.....

You could get a gas mixer and mix the gas yourself.... Dial it in to whatever you want.... 75/25, 70/30, 65/35... etc.
