To Gasket... Or to not, that is the question.
Okay, I am rebuilding a 22re out of toy 4x4, I get a few diffrent stories from every person. Should I use the fel-pro gasket on the oil pan or just use sealer (and also for the timing chain cover). Some people say yes, some people say just "ultra gray." Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Use silicon for the oil pan, and gaskets for the timingcover

Re: To Gasket... Or to not, that is the question.
The factory Toyota black FIPK gasket maker stuff is the best for the oil pan. It will never leak if you clean it and good apply it carefully. It's about $10 for a tube but it will do several oil pans. The timing cover gasket comes in a Felpro "timing cover gasket set" with a front main seal and a few other gaskets, it's about $12 from Autozone, I just bought one a few nights ago.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking, FIPK is "fuel injection performance kit", the gasket maker I was referring to is just the factory toyota silicone stuff.

sweet, thanks, should i use that stuff with the gasket or just the gasket by its self? The book I have doesnt even tell you there is a gasket on the timing cover.
Thanks again.

Re: To Gasket... Or to not, that is the question.
On the pan, just the silicone. On the timing cover, it's the seal between the aluminium cover and the block that gets the gasket, not for the plastic timing belt cover. Just wanted to make sure we are talking about the same thing here.

Slowly. I have everything I need but time. Too many projects going at the same time.
