    Trail width restrictions

I think the wife and I are going to purchase a RZR or RZR-S.

I was down at the dealer comparing models and talking numbers and the
sales guy said the RZR is a better buy in CA because so many of the trails
have width restrictions, and the RZR-S can't access them.
I've looked on UTV sites and asked around, but no one seems to know if
where these trails are, and how striclty these rules are enforced.
The RZR will be a shared rig for me and the wife to take out. I'd really
like to get the "S", but not if we can only take it to the dunes.

Anyone have some insight on this?

    Re: Trail width restrictions

i wouldent worry about it too much unless you ride in the mountains a lot.

i can only recall places like gormon ohv and some others in central and northern ca, that have trail width restrictions. they have posts set at certain widths on the atv and bike trailheads .might be able to find info by contacting the BLM

id go with the S if you frequent the deserts alot , and the reg width model if you do a lot of mountain trails. so that would be my question where do you like to ride or are you new to it?

    Re: Trail width restrictions

the width restrictions are true and enforced get the standard rzr not the s the ecofreaks up here are trying to pass a law that states "4 wheelers" need to be straddled not seated side by side. nothing suprises me anymore. between the nails on trails and booby traps then some poor guy hits a rock the size of a garbage can that was not their yesterday breaking his wrist these people want to close EVERYTHING

    Re: Trail width restrictions

I got a 09 RZRS in Oct. 08. Going on two years now. I go to the desert the most, like Dove springs. My wife and I trail alot. 80% of the trails my RZRS will fit. The trails for bikes only is a nogo. Will not fit thru gate.I know all Jeep trails in Calif. are good to go. Been to Gorman, trail system is nice but short. Going to Wyo this Aug. for some out of state trail riding, can't wait. I am 52 years old, been off roading for 40 years now.My wife and I LOVE are RZRS.

    Re: Trail width restrictions

It'll probably be a mix of both desert and trails. I live in Nor Cal, and will try and stay local-ish. It'll also be used to support/chase the truck I'm building for VORRA.
So with that said, are alot of the trails in Nor/Centeral CA resitricted? On the UTV boards its pretty much unanimous that its not worth buying the standard RZR.

if you like moving at a good pace the S the only oem way to go. sounds like you would be fine with the S . i have gotten mixed numbers anywhere fro 40 -52" width restriction on atv and bike trails. if i remember correctly the stock rzr is 50" in width? so even if its 52 its cutting it close.

pull the trigger and go have fun with it
