    D44 Brake upgrade options

Ok I need some help here. I am starting a prerunner build using D44 hubs on an A arm set up. I plan on using the power brakes system on the truck and I'm looking to find the best "upgrade" to do using stock parts. Building a custom spindle, so mounting a caliper is not a problem. I have read long ago maybe about using rotors from a dodge? Is there a larger dia. rotor that I can find from a stock truck that is 5on5.5? Also a larger caliper that would be a fit? I am in need of some wisdom! I have tried some searches but nothing came up. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A mid 90s 4x4 1500 Dodge rotor will slip over the D44 hub. It's about the biggest you will fit in a 15" wheel.

96 F150s had a floating bolt on caliper, it would not be difficult to make a bracket for.

Anything Wilwood, ProAM, etc would also work for a caliper.

Running 17 inch wheels, and will a wilwood or proam work right with the power brake booster on the truck already? I was under the impression that you had to use a stock caliper with the stock system, this is something I know little about. I am trying to avoid putting a whole new brake system on the truck

Aftermarket calipers are fine with most power boosters.

Depending on the hub, the Dodge rotors might need the ID opened up a little.

Ok, awsome. sounds like I'll probably run Wilwood if I can find a caliper that will accept the dodge rotor, unless someone has a whammiejammie set up they would like to share. Thanks!

Not sure of the width of that rotor but 1" and 1.25" seem to be fairly standard. You may want to look into newer Dodge rotors since your running a 17" wheel. 17" wheels can usually clear a 13" rotor vs. the 10.5 or 11" on most 15" wheels. Larger rotors are the easiest way to add stopping power.

You may look into Ford Van stuff too... they seemed to have a non-metric pattern for longer than the trucks.

the dodge rotor thats used with the unit bearing has a diameter of 11.62 and a thickness of 1.29 with a hub center hole diameter of 3.15.we have used these rotors for the 9"disc brake conversion for years and both the gm "large"and "small" calipers work with them.

I like the rotors from the newer (07ish) dodge trucks. 13.23 dia. 1.1 thick with a 3.09 hole. They should clear a 17 inch wheel no problem
