Re: MDR Lucerne Race - Major accident

What a horrid way to wake up this morning. The local news in Cincinnati had a ticker running across the bottom of the screen and it was the very first thing I saw.

My condolences to all that have been affected by this horrible accident.

Keep in mind that those that were there loved what they did and we all know that there are risks involved with our beloved sport. It just hurts to know that those risks catch up on occasion.

I've been searching the 'net for reports on this. Some of them are short, to the point and pretty decent. Some reports are sensationalist at the least and those reporters need to be removed from their jobs.

This is a very, very sad day indeed.

2nd story on NBC Today Sunday. Showed some footage and the truck overturned.

Will keep those involved in my prayers as I am off to church in a bit.

Re: MDR Lucerne Race - Major accident

I cant sleep I cant even close my eyes right now with out playing it through my head again. Im gonna just type. This has to be one of the worst nights I have ever lived. Me and a few friends, no names need to be mentioned, were standing about 30 feet from where the ACCIDENT began to happen. THe feeling that came over me as I saw the worst thing imaginable coming towards us, we all ran with only hopes of getting out of the way. To then turn around and seeing the chaos and the after math. The truck stopped right where we had been standing. My heart dropped when I saw whos truck it was and to see everything that had happened. I instantly started praying. I fraticly looked for my closest friends, and to thank god finding them ok and not injured. I stayed most the night helping what I could on scene and comforting family members and friends and helping clear all the vehicles to give the helicopters a big enough landing area. I pray that God comforts the families of the resting in peace, the injured and the driver and his family as well. This was ACCIDENT that was out of everyones control. This is the worst and most feared thing in our sport and for it to happen like this is so traggic. But as of right now what everyone needs to be doing is praying or wishing a good turn out or whatever you feel comfortable doing for the families of those who lost there lives tonight and for those battling for there lives as I type this. We are such a tight net industry we need to stick together, DOnt give the media the attention, or the energy, they always blow things way out of proportion. It just breaks my heart to have so many people have to one witness it but mostly live it like I did. Please I ask anyone and everyone not to post pics, video or anything at all in visual aspect of this horrific event. If you have anything in that area please keep it out and off of public domains and websites, please keep everything private. God be with all who witnessed, experianced, and lived this horrible tragedy!!!

What a horrible tragedy. I just woke up and saw it on our local NBC station in Springfield,MO. The local news reported that the driver had to flee for his life from the angry crowd. That seems like sensationalism to me,but I was'nt there. Our prayers go out to everyone involved. It was also one of the lead stories on the Today show. This is awful.

The Driver did not flee do to an angry crowd, but in sheer disbelief in what happened he was standing behind us shaking very badly in shock. He and the Co driver are Physically OK!

Thanks for the reply. The Today Show just reported that the driver had to flee the scene because people were throwing rocks at him. I can't believe the media gets away with this crap. Physically ok is great, but I can't imagine the mental injury. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

When you're left speechless, say a prayer and remember those lost, those injured, those driving, and those rescuing... The days/weeks/months to follow are sure to be difficult.

Re: MDR Lucerne Race - Major accident

What a way to wake up... I'm overwhelmed with the tragedy that has happened to our community. All that keeps going thru my head is how many times I've said "WHAT IF"? WHAT IF that truck were to roll? How would I get away or even grab my boy's from harm's danger? WHAT IF that car would loose it's rhythm? Which way would it bounce? How would we get away?

The thought of this accident and those involved is going to change the way all of us Think, React & Live the rest of our racing lives... Be careful out there people and look out for those around you! If you see a spectator in harm's way maybe say something to them, if your setting up your pit area rope of a spectator area, let's help keep the sport alive by being proactive and hopefully keep another tragedy like this from happening.

God Speed to those that have passed and nothing but many prayers to those hurt and involved and that witnessed this horrible accident! Lead Dog
