Re: Insurance
John, any good insurance agent will take pictures of your truck. If anything happens, you and your insurance will "settle" on what you vehicle is worth, compared to vehicles that are in the same shape. Keep good records of what you do and take pictures. I just went though buying this kind of insurance and my agent was very easy to work with regarding my Ranger.

Re: Insurance
reciepts reciepts reciepts, and plenty of pictures. if you dont have reciepts for all the parts you have on the truck get prices from companys in writing or clip catalog pages, get reciepts from whatever shop (if any) is helping on the build even if they aren`t charging you full price, and take pictures of everything.
i`ve never had a problem getting insured or filing a claim with all those things covered.

Re: Insurance
John,
Find a broker that specializes in agreed value coverage. You will need complete documentation, and it may cost you a few more $ that El Cheapo Inc company. If you insure it with a standard carriers, as a 79 Blazer, they will pay out what the market average of a 79 blazer is worth, not necessarily what you think (or could prove) it is worth. Many companies do not cover not OEm equipment, big wheels, King shocks, custom paint, roll cage, suspension upgrades, etc.
I would also spend a bit more and get the Uninsured / underinsured coverage too. Most low $ policies that other people have have a maximum limit of 5k to 25k. There are some 50k and 100k out there, but not much. One of these clowns totals the Blazer, you will only get the amount of the policy - 5k would zuk.

Re: Insurance
Some company's will make/ask you take the vehicle to an apraiser
this way you have a vaule for your vehicle to be insured off of and insurance companies like hearing it from a "profesional" I would call your current carrier and see who they recomend to take it to. Thats what i had to do with my old mustang

Re: Insurance
what blue coyote said is true. and so is what jerry said. 98% of insurance companies are going to rate the vehicle at ACV (actual cash value), that pretty much falls under blue book value. you want to get something that has replacement cost and an agreed upon value... policies like these are classic car insurance or collector car insurance, they get the vehicle appraised and go by that value, but I dont know what they will say when it's for offroad use...but it should be covered for theft. I would recommend getting a lo-jack installed. are you going to be driving it on the street? if so, get the uninsured/ underinsured motorist coverage.
