MDR - Legal Fund?
Someone asked me today if anyone is considering a fund to help MDR defend themselves legally? Anyone have any insight to this?
I would almost bet they will be one of the first to be sued.

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
i cant even comprehend what those guys are going through . to deal with this and then get sued from every angle possible will be hell for them as well .im sure they have legal representation , but im even more positive that they will need finical help in this situation . if the 2mil ins policy is correct that wont be near enough, unfortunately.
MDR will need our support and help as well to get through these tough times.

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
Not only MDR but any other sanctioning body (MORE) using California BLM land will be horribly affected. You know the lawsuits are coming and if the BLM gets sued then the easiest thing for them to do will be to stop all racing on their land. What a bummer. The BLM considers it their land and they have the power to close it down. this is a sad time for us. I feel for the victims families but I'm more inclined to donate to something to help keep racing alive. Sorry to sound cold, though, as I do feel bad for the families. The victims went past where they were supposed to be though, and they did that of their own accord. It's sad but it's kind of their fault.

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
i was thinking more about ..... "what happens to mdr" as a race series . ie business ???? it sure seems the "blm" (in reports i've read), have not been backing the mdr that much --- saying that they did not comply with their rules with the close-ness of the spectators and the speed limits of the vehicles --- i hope that this is not the case, and that they back them, because at the end of the day, mdr (like many other) series, dishes out of a lot of money for events and the blm surely has benefited from them as well !!! once the dust settles, i'm sure it's going to get real interesting ???
not just a "spectator" .....

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
The bad thing about this is there should be no grounds for a suit. It doesnt make sense to be standing where you could get run over. I know I am showing my age on this post, but you know thats right!

The sad thing is, you can be sure that whoever does sue will have the full financial and legal backing of groups like the Sierra Club. I see where they commented on this tragedy already. I seriously doubt they are seeing this the way we are, as a tragic loss of lifes but more as a wonderful opportunity to capitalize on this situation.

Well if anoyone has any insight as to how we may go about helping stand behind MDR in this whole ordeal please post it up! It is just as important for us as a family to stand behind MDR and the BLM, the people that provide us with the ability to go out and perform our sport!

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
This thread maybe a little early as we need to mourn the lost of the dead & injured, BUT.........MDR & Brett Sloppy are going to need legal help=our help. All of us who get behind the wheel need to stand behind them. Because if they lose, we all will lose the right to race on BLM land and the legal liability we will assume if we hit someone after a legal standard is set.
God speed to the decease

Re: MDR - Legal Fund?
I can almost assure MDR will need help with the legal fee's that will follow this for years to come. I think it would be great if a separate fund or if a small part of the Fast-Aid could be looked set aside.
Also I really, really hope the other series, like MORE, SNORE, D38, SCORE, BITD and others would come to the aid of MDR. Yes they are competition, but we as a off-road family and group need to stay close together and support each other. If MDR loses, which they most likely will, we need to keep the damage as minimal as possible. Because what happens with MDR will effect every car and bike series in California Nevada and Arizona . Once a precedence is set you can almost assure it will used against the others in the future. Can you imagine what the insurance for future races is going to cost? I can see our entry fee's tripling in the future because of insurance, if we can even get it.
We can only hope and pray that once the shock and anger from the victims family's has subsided that they will see that their loved ones were doing what they loved, and that we all need to take some responsibility. And that suing will only help close what their family member loved to do.
I would not be surprised to hear or read that these environmental org that have been wanting to see off-roading gone will be throwing money into the prosecution fund to help see off-road racing be stopped. I hate to say it and I really hope I am wrong, but if MDR and the BLM dont win or minimize the damage, I believe in 10 years we might be looking back at this event and saying this was the beginning of the end off desert racing as we know it today.
Prayers for all involved.
