Take Some Personal Responsibility
It is very tragic what occurred in the desert this weekend. Are prayers and hearts go out to all those involved. This is a vary said time for everyone in the community, but casting blame on the driver, MDR, or anyone else for that matter other then the spectators themselves is down right foolish!!! I have been attending and or racing at these events for as long as I can remember. Everyone who gathers at these events knows the risks involved!!! Standing 5 feet or less from a dirt coarse with vehicles reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph is just plain IDIOTIC!!! Use some common sense!!! When are the people themselves "the spectators" going to take some PERSONAL RESPONSABILITY and stop blaming everyone else. It is a dangerous sport, to race it and to spectate it. Don't take me wrong, I couldn't imagine loosing some one I love or any other life for that matter due to an accident like this. But if it was their choice to step into harms way and view the race at a unsafe distance how can you blame the driver, race organizer, or any one else for that matter. They made that decision to get to close and everyone else shouldn't have to suffer!! Their are millions of miles of train tracks and roads in the desert with no fence, barricades, or security. If someone decides to get to close or step onto the tracks or roads when cars or trains are coming is that the railroads fault or the CHP??? Do they shut down the railroad or highway for everyone else. NO!!!!! The course is marked with signs warnings and vehicles better then most highways. This sport is like nothing else. "To stand at a safe distance" where you ride, drive or camp on the weekends and watch in amazement as these machines drive 75+MPH through roads that are barely drivable at 10MPH in a normal truck or car. This is what my family and many others grew up on. This is what draws the fans to the races. This type of racing is not something you can restrict to a closed track, it just isn't the same, its not "open desert racing"... It just shows how a hand full of people can make bad decisions and everyone else has to worry and suffer to see what will happen with the sport. I don't think the people involved in the accident would want anything to change with the sport. That's why they were at the race to begin with. To see a open desert race in its true form. I think we all as people have to take some PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY of our own and stop trying to pass the blame...

Absolutely. These media dirtbags that are pushing the families to file lawsuits is sickening. Yes, it's very sad, but like you said, common sense should dictate not to stand that close!
