    Tires toast after 35k miles

The old ladys truck needs rear tires after 35k miles [no It's not from smoking them] the damn tire pressure monitoring system MAKES me run 38psi or more then the dash lights up like a pinball machine followed by a email from onstar. Their is way to much pressure in the rear of a unloaded truck causing the center of the tires to wear out. anyone have this problem? I'm going to the dealer monday to see of chevrolet will look into this.

The stock Bridgstone dueler HR 18" my old truck had the same thing's but without the TPS system I ran 24psi without a load just to get the tires to wear evenly this truck on the other hand requires so much pressure It rides like a Iron wheeled shtt spreader

Re: Tires toast after 35k miles

35K miles is not a bad number in general for the average vehicle, but the dealer and most tire shops can reprogram the TMS systems tire presure operating range (min / max) its important to maintain the original tire load range as originally equipped or tire wear can become a issue. Another situation would be the original assembly line components are the best, replacement components do not have to meet the same standards.

most trucks with any kind of load range will call out more than 38 psi. what does the sidewall of the tire say?

Re: Tires toast after 35k miles

As TCR said, many of the systems can be reset.

My Tacoma and my wife's MDX both have reset buttons the operator may use to adjust/reset the PSI values in the monitoring system. Resetting the system will take the PSI values the tires are at, at the time of reset, and use those values as the new operating PSI value. This will not eliminate the minimum and maximum values pre-programmed in the system by the MFG, just change the preferred operating PSI values. This process should be covered in the owners manual. Neither of my vehicles require going to a dealer, it is driver resettable.

You can do that because It's a Toyota not some GM POS that has to go back to the dealer for a 22 second reflash at the tune of 80 bucks thanks Obummer I will remember this.

Jeff, you might try pulling the fuse, setting tires to your preferred pressures, then replacing fuse.

Worked on my GM HVAC computer after a "tech" claimed I needed a new component to the tune of $700 plus installation.

Just put a sticker over the TPS light and say DGAF. Or go on ebay, buy a GM dealer tool for scanning the ECU and reflash it your self.
