You would be surprised how well the stock type one transmission will hold up with a stock clutch disc and a Kennedy Stage I pressure plate. The stock clutch disc is like a fuse for the transmission. There is another A-Arm BAJA with a 4.3 liter Chevy motor and a type one transmission on Race-Dezert.com. His type one trans has lasted quite a while. You can get more travel out of a type one transmission with 930 CV's because your axels are longer for the same track width.

That is what I figured with the stock clutch idea, clutches are a lot cheaper to replace than whole transmissions.

I agree but the one thing positive about the 091 is you'll get an inch or two more travel. You have a smaller diameter ring gear so you can mount the transaxle lower. You could keep the same wheel travel with the bigger transaxles if you put a bump on the underside of your bug to let the transaxle stick down there. 091 lets you keep it flat on the bottom and have the max rear wheel travel. Take them to about 24 or 25 degrees at droop. Just one thing to consider.
