    Re: Hawthorne 225 results

    Thanks Troy !

Here is our story for our first race in Hawthorne with Vorra. We did a quickie 15 hour race prep after the X0 250, nothing big except a new expensive power steering pump (the power steering pump costs $50 more than my engine), and a bigger cooler to cool the expensive power steering pump!

We pre ran with the race truck before tech, I spent all of my money on the race truck and cannot afford a pre runner! Luckily this let us make a couple of suspension changes during the pre run.

We started I think 5th or 6th in class, and by the end of the second lap we worked our way right behind Koenig and Phillips. I was fine with this, as I knew that at least one would pit, and I was probably leading at the time on time. A few miles form main, we passed Koenig (or Troy not sure?) , they looked to have a flat tire.

In the main pit, we passed about 5 cars physically, including Phillips and I then thanked my giant fuel cell, and my fuel sipping engine, and I also have to get a shout out to my BFG's that also kept us from stopping!!!

We then caught the Punisher class 1 car about 8 miles out of main, and they proceded to use their V8 in just the right places to make me have to try hard to pass them. It took me 3 tries, but I finally got em, and I think knocked one of the rubber dock bumpers off of my bumper in the process. This was the extent of the total damage for my whole race, and no I will not have to talk to George, it was a gentle nudge, but the whoops tore it off in the process!!

By the way, we could only go a max of 64 damn miles an hour on that long, slight up hill after the BFG pit, just past the roadgrader. How fast do you all go up that thing, we felt super slow.

We managed to finish with no flats, no fuel stops and no problems for our first win!! This is only the 3rd race for the Samco 7200 truck, and only my 3rd race as a driver (4 if you count my 30 miles in Baja with no power steering!!!)

I am very proud of our team for this win. I have to thank my family for all of the support, and all of the guys and girls that help us out, and help me out with my truck. It feels very very good to win with your own design and build.

I also would like to thank Sierra Repair in Reno for the support, if you ever need help with professional lawn care equipment, or chainsaw repair, go to Sierra Repair in Reno!!

Also Torchmate has been a big help, they cut a bunch of parts for me, and helped me see that you dont always need a waterjet or laser to make really nice parts!

Dont forget to get all of your driveline work done at Bayshore Driveline and Truck, they are right in front of my shop.

Thanks also to the Hall family, I have learned a lot about driving, racing and winning from them, and congrats to Sam Berri for the overall win.

Sam keeps it real for the rest of us, he gives us a professional mark to shoot for, and someday I hope to give him a good race! I root for Sam when he steps up to the plate with the big teams, he is always right there with anybody out there in off road racing. I could not be more proud to finish overall runner up to him.

Lastly, did anybody get any video from that road crossing?

64 sounds about right for us too. Last year was 105 down the hill.
