Engine only wiring harness for a 5.8L engine ??

Ford Racings tech line is closed for the weekend so I thought I would post this question here. If you don't know I have a '94 F-150.

Does Ford or anyone else make a stand-alone engine only wiring harness for the 5.8L EFI motor? I have but haven't installed Ford's mass air-flow conversion kit and a manual valvebody C6. I'm going to completely gut the interior and engine bay and will only keep the essential parts. No more heater, A/C, etc. What do people do in hot rods running 5.0L mustang engines? I'm going to completly re-wire the truck, but need to get the engine running on its own first.

Does this make any sense ....lol

Not exactly Salvador ... I already have a high performance ECU for the engine. I'm only looking for a wiring harness that goes from the ECU to the fuel injection and sensors so I can pull out the entire wiring harness in the truck and the motor will run.

Thanks for the link though, they look like a good place to get 5.0L/5.8L parts from. I would luv to just throw in crate motor with a carb but dont have the $$$ right now to do that and it's not smog legal.

Re: Engine only wiring harness for a 5.8L engine ?

The guy who runs the Detail Zone used to work for Ron Francis doing all of their EFI stuff. He bought the EFI part of the business from RF and went out on his own. BAsed on the RF kit we used to do a smog legal LS1 into a Jeep YJ swap they are the top of the line.

More like PAINFUL Wiring if the one harness kit of theirs that I've used is any indication.

If you convert it to the Mustang system you can use the FMS harness kit. From what I understand the FMS kit is one of the least spendy and is fully functional. AFAIK all of the 5.8 trucks are Speed Density, going to the Mustang system converts it to MAF. The 5.0 MAF computers can run the 5.8's with very minor hardware tweaks. Search the Early Bronco lists & bbs' as this is a frequent topic. I know it was just discussed on the So. CA EB list. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/socalbroncos/

Leave the A/C compressor on there & turn it into an air pump. Handy thing to have for airing up tires etc.

does the truck have an efi harness in it now? its not much work to strip the non essentials off the harness and use it. if you just want plug and play howell efi makes 5.0/5.8 harness`s as does painless ron francis and a ton of other places.

Re: Engine only wiring harness for a 5.8L engine ?

Ron Francis doesn't do EFI anymore, they sold that part of the business to the Detail Zone. A couple first hand reports on cK5.com put Howell down with the catfish, if you get my drift. After installing a Painfull wiring Universal Kit I wouldn't use their EFI kits on any of my personal vehicles.

There is a guy named Ron Morris out there who does custom Ford SEFI harness' (& possibly others) . I've seen some of his early work and it was very nice. He used to be located somewhere in the San Jouquin Valley, may still - I do not know.

I think the FMS harness for the SEFI is likely the best option for quality vs. price. The best would be the Detail Zone harness if they have maintained the RF level of quality.

There's a guy at my work that has an old F100 with a 5.0 motor in itwith a C4. I know he used a Ford Motorsport harness and said it was simple and worked well. I'll ask him a bit more about it at work on monday.

Re: Engine only wiring harness for a 5.8L engine ??

the 5.0 and 5.8 harnesses are different, but close enough that if your patient(and pretty good with wiring) you can take a mustang harness (which is engine only) and modify it to work with the 5.8 ECU. i think the tough part could be finding the wiring schem. for both to figure out which pins need to be swapped. it may be easier to just strip the unused wires from your truck harness.

    good luck!
