I dodge a bullet!!!
Just got word that our terminal (FedEx National) is gonna stay open but out of the 42 drivers we have 15-20 are gonna be gone. I am 9th on the seniority board so I get to stay and chose what I want. I know about 11 of the drivers out of the 15-20 are gonna be able to relocate to another terminal but it sucks to hear about the guys on the very bottom of the list! I have become friends with mostly all the drivers and I hope for those guys it all works out! They get a small severance package since they haven't been with the company long but at least its something!

Why is Fed Ex cutting? The entire time I was driving to and from Havasu from Wisconsin all I saw was FedEx doubles going every which way.

They are merging their National LTL division with their freight division so its just one truck now to pick up all the customer's shipment at once instead of two different trucks backing up to their dock. I think its a better plan! Less fuel, less trucks on the road and since they are cutting people= less wages paid! I feel bad for the guys getting laid off but FedEx's freight and National Division have been taking losses for years now! One thing though...FedEx has though this threw before they pulled the trigger so it has to be for the best of the company!

I hate to say it, but there could be another bullet on the way. Walmart is getting into the shipping business. Oops, make that Walmart is in the shipping business, big time. They already have one of the largest truck fleets around and up til now they've been running empty back to the warehouses. I hope not, but they may end up overrunning FedEx, UPS, and the postal service.

If wallmart gets into the freight biz all trucking company's will die off in less than 10 years and all the drivers that HAD a job with someone else will be working for wallmart for 20 cents a mile in a single screw truck that can't go over 56.7mph and no air a gps locator to know where you are good times.

FedEx already has GPS locators in there trucks. But Walmart could not handle Less than truck load freight! they might be able to do truck loads but LTL is a whole different ballgame.

glade to here that you were able to doge that bullet. now more then ever is a time to keep your head low, don’t be opinionated, fall into the back ground and you should be able to survive any others.
i worked in the telecommunications industry for 25 years. worked at the same office for 18 sitting at the same desk. went through 7 mergers/accusations. every one we had to reprove our self worth to the company. after being there so many years, i felt i was pretty safe and spoke up a few times constructive criticism about the timing of some of the changes they were wanting to implement. they did not listen and some of the things that i said were happening so i got laid off.
