    HID's on the highway sections

with as many miles being run on the highway as there are, and with many racers on the road at night, how will this work out when the time comes when it comes to regular traffic coming from the opposite way? i'd hate to be coming back from down south being blinded by millions of candlepower of lighting coming around a blind corner. jus' sayin'.

    Be as curtious as possible.
If all you have is HID's watch out for oncoming traffic pushing into your lane.
You know, regular baja driving stuff....haha

no one appreciates humor as much as i do, but this is a serious question with serious consequences if you're dealing with, oh, say a pissed off mexican trucker who has a schedule to meet or just likes taking his third of the road in the middle when he's staring into 16 high output lights. personally, we're putting on a couple of lower output running lights or fog lamps for this deal. might come in handy for any fog banks in san felipe. don't laugh. after years of hanging out down there full and part time, and NEVER seeing any fog, we ran into some serious fog south of town while prerunning.

As much as it would be nice for the racers to run a couple halogen's, not enough are going to. Even running just two or 3 HID lights is going to be way more painful than someones normal brights. Be as Careful as you can!

The chase trucks should also have their headlights aimed properly with the load in the back. Google has a few results on how to do so.

Re: HID's on the highway sections

In the past what I have done is once on the highway/black top I shut all but two lights off. And a few times if I was behind anther vehicle I was able to turn the last two off as on coming traffic was approaching. As soon as they went by the two lights came back on. My theory was the lights blinding them might make the on coming traffic cross over into my lane, more then me having my lights off and they not seeing me as well as they passed me. It's not like the old days where we were racing down the highway and needed all the light we can get. One light is more then enough for going 60 MPH on the highway.

If you are running enough lights and can afford to shine one more towards the right this might help as you can shut all the lights off but that one and still give yourself some vision without endangering on coming traffic?

06, 1000, I was trying to get back to San Igancio from Loreto(we were out of the race) I had plenty of day light except, a truck rolled just out of Santa Rosalia, I was the first car going north after they cleared the side of the cliff to shimmy by, it was now dark and every chase crew heading south were stuck. I knew I would be heading into on coming race traffic on the hwy, even a bike with HID's was bright, I just slowed or stopped for every on coming racer.
Just remember Randy, don't look at the light, look at the shoulder, you'll be safe!
    And GOOD LUCK!

    Sorry that I offended you,
Yes it is a very serious situation and could have very serious consequences... But the race has had night time highway sections many many times and one can only be careful and hope for the best.. as stated previously "regular baja stuff" For those racers that have been on the highway at night hopefully they will can switch off the majority of their lights to make it a little more safe.

If your down south headed north
Don't stare into the light and just as if you were behind someone in the dust look out the side to make sure your still on course and keep going until Light tower goes by then Resume race speed.
