I'm working a deal on a PR and the guy has a 45' Prevost.
He wants to tow the truck, The truck will have a full floater Spool with a RE4R10A Trans 3spd with OD. The customer is in his 50's and I don't want to make him pull the DS every time he tows his PR. Any suggestions???(besides a trailer) I was thinking that there must be a full floating Carrier or DS that has a pin that goes threw to disengage the DS when towing(capable of 400HP). Any links or suggestion would be appreciated.
Chuck?? Remco?? Jeep guys??
Thanks in advance>>>>>>SLR

Thanks for the reply. Never thought of that... 40 Spline is the only way to go, All are trucks share the same hubs and drive plates.
I found the site THE PART
I would like to see a photo of the coupler, Makes me wonder how it would do down in BAJA??? Perhaps AMD has some new parts to make... Full pneumatic???
Also towing with a spool should kill the life of the tires, How long do you think the Wheel Bearings would last???
Just want to build the sickness, Thanks>>>>>>>SLR
I've talked to a jeep guy that had a built big block in his jeep running on 38" swampers with some stupid low gearing. Basically a massive torque load on the axles. His rearend was only a Dana 44 with that Warn FF hub conversion and he said he never had a problem with the hubs, he was braking axles before the hub would let go.
My pops had them on his old CJ and towed that thing everywhere behind the Winnie... Just unlocked all 4 hubs and off they went...
Talked with Remco... Sounds like something your Grampa would have on his SideKick...LOL, I think in our realm a custom AMD is the only way to go. Should be cool.
This is a 2WD PR... If it was 4WD then you put the T-case in N and tow away... The Warn FF rear hubs just seem like another part to go wrong... I will have a spare DS on the truck in case something happens to the carrier or coupler, He will craw under and bolt up Old Faithful...
Attached a Remco unit...
Locking hubs are available up to the power level required but will they fit? The drive shaft coupler might not be up to the HP (or big angle changes if you are running a single D/S). If your customer could do a little mechanical work the options would expand. Real full floating axles are easy to remove and replace. I have seen bolt on bearing gizmos that mount the wheel to the hub and let it turn without turning anything else. They move the wheels out about 2 inches for towing. Something like this can easily be made, but someone must still sell them, maybe J.C. Whitney. Another alternative, if he is into total convenience, is providing an auxiliary means for lubricating the few parts in the transmission that need it while towing. A power steering pump on the driveline would do that reliably. People tow SUV’s behind motorhomes all the time. They must know something.
The truck will have a carrier bearing. Coupler sounds cool because I can keep my hubs and 40 Spline Drive plates.
The problem is $$$$ for R&D and budget. I would like to make a Carrier bearing with a WARN style FF hub in cab actuated.
Use 2 Drive shafts on the end of a carrier 6" in length with 88 duramater POLY with 2 huge sealed roller bearings. A spring with a cable that actuates large 8620 HT M-F spline design. The Carrier would work to the configuration of the truck I want to build and the ease of driveline parts.
Option 2 would be making FF hubs drive plate style with 40 Spline axles. I'm sure you can get a WARN hub with 40 Spline.
The problem with the WARN design is the Load placed on bearings and how long would they last to REAL off-road use?? Anyone got Photos of the Bad Boy WARN??
I like the simple idea of a locking hub... I think we can take the basic idea and make a "BEEF CAKE" 40 spline drive plate version. Incorporate the free floating hub into my hub design.
The removable drive plate will have a floating WARN style hub with a larger bearing for REAL off-road use. The spring loaded hub will retract from the axles to have SLR hubs and FF capabilities. The only problem I see is engaging the 40 spline M-F part. I'm sure AMD can figure this out
The problem... 2 parts now, rather than 1(DS Carrier)
I have never seen the bolt in gizmos, Got any links??
Remco make a bolt on trans deal, But those guys are hicks...
The belt design can come off in tow and kill a trans...
My customer flat tows all the time and told me about Remco.
Asked my driveline shop about the unit, No go on anything over 300HP.
