Does anyone else see the miracle here?? Swink mentioned that it was his luckiest day and unluckiest day all in one. - I see a guy down in Mexico doing the Lord's work and by a miracle being saved by great people that were in the right place at exactly the right time....Everything was in place by chance?? The guy's last name is even Lamb, something Christ is compared to many times in the Bible. Think about this - What are the odds?
I agree..........I don't think anyone else could have saved Lamb other than Kent and Jerremy who just happened to be at the right place at the right time. These are the kinda guys who are always prepared. Because of this they received the most wonderful gift God can bestow upon someone, and that's the opportunity to save a life. They take what they do very seriously, and that's why they are probably the best at what they do.

As far as donations to help this Lamb fellow out, I'm all for it, but I had better see Team Traxxas step up and take care of this guy. I have a feeling they probably are and we are just not hearing about it, but because accidents like this effect the whole racing community, it would be nice if they would issue a statement.

Re: The Mayhem RG alluded to at the driver's meeting

I got these photos yesterday. The Lamb family would like everyone to see what happened.

When we arrived the TT was on its side. You can see how the impact was mostly driver to driver. One can infer from this that one or both vehicles were cheated to the right side of the road as they approached the crest of the hill.

We have to find ways to minimize the possibility of this happening in the future.

Kent...It is an honor to know that you are a true racer....To know that you really saved a life can not be translated into words. I am without words. I'm sure you do not believe it as such but you are a hero. Although I have quite a bit of first aid training, had I been in your shoes I'm not sure if I would have been able to do what you did. I am a firm believer that all teams should have as many people with some type of first responder training, and I would also like to know how/where I can get more advanced training. This is a very important subject and I would like to see if it is possible to make this happen on a larger scale.
REP to you and your crew Kent...someday I will thank you personally.

Re: The Mayhem RG alluded to at the driver's meeting

I want to thank everyone for their kind words about my team and me.

But one thing I would like to make clear is that we are not exactly saints. Believe me. In the car with James that night, to detune the situation Jeremy asked him if he liked clean jokes or dirty jokes. James says, "clean" and we both looked at each other - "you're SOL, James." Neither Jeremy nor I could think of one joke that was not offensive in some way.

We didn't talk much about the incident until we returned to San Diego and got into a bottle of Jim Beam. Later, I was in Jeremy's notebook trying to find out if we had put a waypoint on this huge hole I almost dumped us into in Calamahue wash and ran across James' name and vitals. That inspired calling the local hospitals to see if he had made it out OK. I also wanted to know how much blood he took and if our initial trauma assessment had been accurate. I'm very happy to have been able to help, but this wasn't a miracle or anything - just simple mechanics.

I am certain that given the same circumstances, many folks who were down for the race would have stepped up and helped in the same way.

Re: The Mayhem RG alluded to at the driver's meeting

This is a very tragic situation. Regardless of who was cheating the line, there is no excuse for this severe of an accident to take place the evening prior to a race. As intelligent humans, we should have far greater respect for our fellow man than to be placing them at risk through our own self-centered actions. Through their own admission, the #86 truck was traveling at approx 50mph, over blind hills and around blind corners. I seriously doubt the minivan was anywhere near that speed (by evidence of the damage to the vehicles and harshness of the terrain/road). This gentleman is alive today only through the Grace Of God and two very caring/giving individuals that refused to let this man die on the roadside.

The off-road racing community, spectators and competitors, have got to realize that we and only we, are in control of our own future. We have experienced several tragic occurrences this past year, all of which could have been avoided through a little more "Give A Damn" attitude. I've been involved in this sport for almost 20yrs, and this is by far the most disappointing year when I look back on the season of racing and the price that has been paid. For those of us that make a living in the industry, we should be greatly concerned by these negative occurrences, as they will be the eventual demise of open course off-road racing.

We, the off-road community, competitors, industry and sanctioning bodies, must begin doing a better job of policing our own actions, establish rules and guidelines competitors and sanctioning bodies must follow to insure the safety for all, and the longevity of the sport. We need to institute regulation that mandate safe actions when pre-running and severe repercussions if not followed. In addition, certain safety regulations of our race vehicles and chase vehicles needs to be reviewed. Example; Anti-collision lights are minimally bright enough anymore (compared to 15yrs prior), and they should also be required on all vehicles that enter the race course (race, chase and safety). There should be differing colors to represent whether a vehicle is a chase or race vehicle. Also, we have had several vehicle fires this year. I know there are several race vehicles competing that have no safety shut-off for the electric fuel pumps. This should be a requirement for all vehicles. If the engine stops, the fuel pump automatically shuts off, no exceptions. We have been very fortunate so far that we have not severely burned any persons to date (we have been very close).

The gentleman driving the minivan is very fortunate to be alive. God does not always give persons a second life, but God obviously is not done with this gentleman yet. He was already doing good works for God and man, and I'm sure God has more planned for him post his recovery. He was in Ensenada solely do to his love and concern for fellow man, and unfortunately it is the opposite that has placed him in the condition he is in now. In addition to my prayers for him and his family, I am praying the off-road racing community realize the errors in many of our actions and we strive to better them and place greater concern for the safety and well being of others.

God bless the injured and efforts of the USMC men who saved a life. I agree with ProPerformance that the focus needs to be on continuing to improve on safety concerns. The larger gap between riders and drivers seemed to lessen the risks of what happened at the 500. Now SCORE needs to deal with prerunning the start and "testing" before the race. Should SCORE do more than issue a one page information sheet to limit prerunning the start until two days before the race? I.E. Close the start to ojos at night (since that section is raced during the day), impose a speed limit, or, as someone I think suggested, do a series of escorted pre-runs? From the comments on dirtnewz, it appears the 86 was "testing lights." There was no reason for TT's or any class to "prerun" the start at night.

Excellent post and all Praise goes to the Lord our God for watching over one of His sheep. God has forgiven Team Traxxas, but hopefully He has also taught them to have more compassion and common sense for their fellow man!!!!

Dirtnews is a good place for em, cause I just heard they haven't even contacted the Lamb family. RG saw them 20 miles from Ensenada, and the accident happened another 5 miles up the road. Testing lights..........right. There's an account opened at Wells Fargo for James Lamb, and I will pass along more info as soon as I donate tomorrow. I know we have all (The RDC Family) donated a lot of money lately due to multiple trageties, but that's how we all roll here on RDC. Let's see if we can help this fella out cause he was out doing God's business when this happened. He has a family, so you can kinda guess what their Thanksgiving was like, and what they can look forward to at Christmas.
