need info on what org. to join

hey all. My buddy has a 94 jeep cherokee that were looking to get ready for off road racing. were not sure what organization to join. we live in las vegas and wanted to try to keep as many races local as we can because of the budget. also what would be a good class for these. i noticed snore doesnt have a jeepspeed class but bitd does. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Join 'em both and the Blue Ribbon Coalition, too. You and your buddy ought to volunteer with a local team, learn the ropes, find something to race other than a Jeep you have to build yourself. Start our racing Sportsman, if you regularly finish, think about what Pro Class you can afford to race.

    Read this forum religiously.

    Have fun and good luck!

well were both mehcanics and he already owns the jeep. We werent thinking of racing in any pro classes. just running in like a jeepspeed/1700. but not really sure how the whole organization/ class thing works.

Believe me, you can pick up a racer for far less than it would cost to build that Jeep to minimum Sportsman class scrutiny. Off road race pioneer Jack Woods told me: "A racecar is worth half what you have in it the day it's finished and half of that if you've raced it."

Are you also fabricators, machinists, tranny builders, shock techs, logistics managers AND trust fund babies in no need of employ?

Still way cheaper to buy an existing racer, and less chance of creating a garage queen/potential yard art.
Check out rdc and promoter classifieds.

I believe both BITD and SNORE have their respective rulebooks posted online at their sites.

yes we do know how and have all the tools to fabricate, machine, shock tune, so on. Is it really that much to bring a stock jeep up to jeepspeed spec? looking at the rule books for bitd and snore. being as jeepspeed is limited and pretty much made for the budget racers with off the shelf parts. how can it be so expensive to get started?

so hypothetically, if we built our jeep so it conforms to the jeepspeed or 1700 class. what would the next step be?

I've been on a Jeepspeed team for 3 years or so. Expect to spend at least $20k building the car not including labor. My team owner says he spends between $3-5k per race for prep, entry fees, fuel, etc per race.

As others have said, way cheaper to buy a used racer. I know of several proven cars for sale at reasonable prices, most come with spare parts.

More than you think....NBD is right, buy one put together. I built my truck from scratch and with the money I've spent could've bought something far nicer (especially now) and less headache, IMHO.
    Good Luck.
