Also any ideas for a swing set to keep the chevy ps box i have now. feel free to post pic. im just loking for ways to cut corners till i can aford the right stuff considering im sitll in school

Re: 1400 chevy build
I'm assuming you mean dana 44 for the front. they're mainly in the I beam 1/2 ton fords from 1959 to 1996. I'm not 100% sure how you're trying to use that with a center mounted kit. I'd also advise against making one if it's just you and you're not being guided by anyone that has made one before. There's a lot of geometry that goes into building and designing a suspension like that.
As for steering if you end up going center mounted you may run into issues trying to use a stock steering box when you have fabricated tie rods like a center mount would have.

Re: 1400 chevy build
d44 hubs are one of the easiest to find hubs out there. They are on the 4wd f150s and broncos for a WHOLE lot of years. They were also on some chevys in the 70s (maybe 80s too) that had the chevy 6 lug pattern. There was something i read about older year fords having a larger 2in inner bearing where the newer ford d44s were 1.75. Ive used a few sets of d44 hubs on some kits that ive built and they work pretty good. I convince people to switch to a ford 9in axle and then just have them run the ford 5x5.5 hubs.
For steering look at some spd trophy trucks. They use a ps box and vertical swingers. You are getting into a lot of work though and ive got a center mount kit, but im not giving up the dimensions. Still havent gotten around to finalizing the steering on it though. Ive got 3 steering systems on it, 2 using ps boxes and 1 with full hydro. Just gotta figure which route will be the best for my buddy

Chace,
here's a thread I started on the FSB forum, there is some good info on the different D44 TTB spindles/snouts since someone else brought up the size differences. Hopefully this will help select the best spindles/snouts for your application. . .

There's a lot of good info on this kind of stuff on FSB and TheRangerStation.com since they deal pretty much exclusively with these.
Good Luck!
