    your dakar predictions.

so what do you folks think? who's on the podium after it's all said and done for cars and bikes. i think it's possible that three different manufacturers may be there. one of the vw guys, the bmw guy, and some guy from orange county that you either love or hate. in no order. for bikes, wouldn't it be something to have street and cody on the podium. is marc coma racing? the field will be racing for second if he is. he's a baddd man. the big trucks will be russian or dutch driven. prolly vlad, that other russian kamaz team and then the dutch guys with unpronounceable names. i think maybe vw will have company on the podium this year. no sweep this go round.

I predict we will finally get an answer to whether or not the Hummbuggy is really any good versus these Vdubs.

I think the inflation excuse can finally be put to rest if the gear boxes live.

I would love to see MM and RG have zero problems and take turns leading the whole thing, take it all the way to the last day and see RG win by a nose.

    Re: your dakar predictions.

I hope for some good racing... I would love the see RG on top of the podium and think he has the capability, but they have to run trouble free to do it... For some reason I don't think the VWs will be as dominant as they have been... even in huge multi-million $ efforts complacency can set in and I think they will experience some growing pains this year and if RG and some of the other teams can keep pressure on them, I think they will crack under the pressure...

On the bikes, Coma, Street and someone we don't expect will probably make up the podium...

Gas On guys and be safe!!!

No predictions. I'm like an agnostic watching Notre Dame play TCU. I don't care who wins. I want to see good, competitive racing that will keep me interested until the last Stage. I would, though, like to see Street (#7) and Cody (#15) finish and finish high in the standings.

    Re: your dakar predictions.

it seems like that on bikes, that a rider can have all the physical skills in the world, but if he cant navigate well, there's no chance. with this being his first dakar, how will this affect cody. has he had enough "coaching" and practice on his nav skills to get the job done? anyone...

What's "enough"? Jonah practices navigation every year and still seeks out more roadbook training opportunities. A few weeks ago Quinn spent 3 days out near Pahrump riding a couple hundred miles following my roadbooks. That's barely enough to get a feel for it. He had little or no practice with the HP compass heading stuff. That's what you do in the dunes. So he may be a bit weak navigation wise in the dunes. He said his goal for this year was mainly to learn, and try to have a decent finish. He had 1 on 1 help from Johnny Campbell, Chris Blais and Jimmy Lewis, so he's a lot better off that most Dakar rookies.
