FIA Rules limits us to 5 forward gears and we were hoping for a sequential

Re: Transaxle options ?
We can make a 5 speed seqential straight cut gears and a dog shift in the WHT transaxle.
For the sand do you want a clutch or a torque converter?

It is a little out of date, I need to get my brother to put in all the new stuff from last year.
Thanks,

Re: Transaxle options ?
We are not settled yet on the clutch vs TC but we use reverse alot, which do you recommend ?
what about a hybrid TC/clutch ?

Is this what you mean?
A multiplate torque converter clutch system, which is adapted for installation in torque converters of different automatic transmission manufacturers, namely, BORG WARNER, ALLISON, FORD, GENERAL MOTORS, and CHRYSLER transmissions. The present multiplate torque converter clutch system is provided in kit format including a hybrid lock-up piston/damper plate subassembly, multiple clutch plates including friction rings, a set of outer damper springs, and a set of inner damper springs. The present multiplate torque converter clutch system also includes a torque converter cover subassembly and a turbine hub subassembly configured to adapt the present torque converter clutch system to different vehicle engines and transmissions respectively. The hybrid lock-up piston/damper plate subassembly can be tuned to match a peak engine torque value by changing the number of damper springs. Advantageously, the present hybrid lock-up piston/damper plate subassembly is disassembled by removal of a single retaining ring to facilitate changes to the damper springs.
(a lock up torque converter)
or a clutch and a torque converter?
Dont worry about reverse we know how to do that.

Re: Transaxle options ?
I'll resurrect this thread as I am going through the same pains with regards to transaxles!
I have two cars which I want to repower with either a Subaru EJ253 (2.5L 4 Cyl NA SOHC) or a EZ30-R (3.0L 6 Cyl NA). As we race FIA events, we need to have a naturally aspirated engine to comply with regulations.
We also have minimum weight limits:
Subaru EJ253 - 2,250 cc to 2,500 cc = 1,040 kgs (2,292 lbs)
Subaru EZ30R - 2,750 cc to 3,000 cc = 1,100 kgs (2,425 lbs)
As Pharoah XJ mentioned, we do need to have a 5 speed box as we need to be able to stir through the gears to maintain momentum through the dunes as well as have the longer ‘legs’ to be able to attain speeds of over 160 KPH (100 MPH) on the straight desert sandy sections which are power sapping.
My previous car had an Albins AGB10 6 speed sequential mated to a Honda J35A5 3.5 litre V6 – even then I had to stir it through the gears to maintain the speed. FIA regulations have since changed and we’re only allowed to have 5 gears.
Experience tells me to go with the Albins as a matter of course but I also need to find something more cost effective, which will serve the purpose. Bear in mind that I need to be able to use reverse gear in anger as well.
I have looked at the offerings from PBS, Weddle, Fortin, Mendeola and just recently the Field’s 3 Speed Auto.
The auto idea appeals to me; although at 100 kgs (218 lbs) is quite heavy. It is not a full auto and has to be shifted manually, which is something that surprised me...
So here I am, sitting in the desert, going around and around in circles trying to make the right decision!
Can someone with real life experience help me through this maze?

That sounds very interesting... can you let me have prices for both options?

Going with the smaller motor/lighter car combo will always be easier on the trans.
