Re: WHO IS THE GREATEST DESERT RACER IN WORLD? Find out on Feb, 12th.

AWESOME time in Mexicali for the CODE Grand Prix! The fans were terrific and the weather was perfect. The entire town seemed to be into the race. I raced with Ernesto Martinez from Ensenada. There is quite a rival between racers from Ensenada and Mexicali. Ernesto is a 2-time SCORE Baja 1000 winner in Class 11, and I could tell, he was there to win. I like that and I felt right at home. I drove the black and blue Class 11(1107), with custom painted skulls, for the very first time Friday, before the race. It is exactly like a Trophy Truck! OK, not at all, but still very fun to drive. I'm still not sure why there are 3 pedals down there, but anyways. The race was Saturday, and all classes were divided into 2 heats. I drove the first heat in the AM, and then Ernesto's son, took over driving duties in heat 2. Heat 1, my race: 31, yes 31, Class 11's left the line in a land rush start into a very wide first turn. I knew we had to be in the front to do well. We were lucky and my car was strong, as we were in the hunt for the hole shot. No way could we lift, and my Class 11 kept pulling. We passed 1 in the first couple of whoops, and had our eyes on the leaders. By mile 5, we were 2nd, and I was more than happy. My co-piloto was calling all the lines, and helping me remember to shift to 3rd. We continued the pace, and finished the first lap of 18 miles in 2nd place. We could hear the crowd cheer as we crossed the start/finish jump. By the middle of the 2nd lap, I missed the fast line in the sand wash, and lost 2 positions. I was really bummed and did everything I could to gain back the positions, but I ended up 4th in Class 11. I guess my pops was in 5th right behind me, when his car broke a shock tower. How cool would that have been to race side by side with him? Ernesto's sone drove the 2nd heat, and was in 2nd place, close to 1st, on the last lap when he lost a fan belt and over heated the engine. He was able to finish, but quite a bit behind. He drove a great race! I am still very happy to have ended up 4th and 1st Trophy Truck driver. I really want to thank Ernesto Martinez. He is a class act, and a wonderful guy. THANK YOU ERNESTO! I also want to thank everyone at CODE for putting on an awesome race. And finally, thank you Mexicali. VIVA MEXICO!

Re: WHO IS THE GREATEST DESERT RACER IN WORLD? Find out on Feb, 12th.

I to took place in this fantastic event, 1158 was the only car to travel from the good ol USA to be one of the 31 to leave the start line on a perfect day in the dezert. Perry McNeil was the first celeb TT driver to finish the first heat about 20 seconds if that behind the first car in 2nd place
and a loong time before 3rd place showed into the impound area. The carnage was big! Chad and Larry both did remarkably well going from TT racing to bug racing and I think they both will agree class 11 racers take there racing VERY VERY serius!! Well done! The 2nd heat the start was not as smooth and 1158 was in the top 4 on lap 1 and was laying number 2 about 3/4 of the way into the 2nd lap within eye shot of the leader when the top bolt on the r front shock broke and about 1/4 mile later the ball joint failed and 1158 came to a immediate stop! That is the 2nd ball joint failure in close to 37 years of racing class 11 cars!! 1158 is batterd, one window fell off and lame rite now, she had to be dragged onto the trailer but will be repaired this week to Race Snores Battle at Primm this comming weekend were over 20 class 11 cars are expected to bang doors in the USA with not 1 entry on the list from south of the border! Congratulations to the winners and even the losers because who ever raced this event was a winner and the ones who missed it WOW you missed a good one! I want to thank Perry and the whole McNeil racing team for a great weekend and congratulate Perry on his dominating class 12 win! jumping rite out of his winning 12 car and into the bug!! Not bad for a man in his 60s!! Got home at 5am this morning slept till 9 now time to revive the bug. To bad something like this could not take place at BAP!
37th year and still love it!!

It was a great race, lots of fun. It makes it very exciting to see all the cars starting at the same time, just a great race. I forgot to take my camera and my notes with all the drivers numbers so I couldn't really tell who was who, I did see Vildósola SR hauling ass on the first lap or second. Vildósola JR. went by a little slower after a few minutes, his car was hurting for what I could hear. Aside for them I couldn't tell who anybody else was, but the race was awesome.

Huge congrats to Perry McNeil. He passed me in the wash like I was standing still. He found a much better line, and I never saw him again. Again, it was a wonderful event, and I would do it again!

Re: WHO IS THE GREATEST DESERT RACER IN WORLD? Find out on Feb, 12th.

made it down and had a blast, just like the last few times i've gone to code races. well organized, friendly people great racing. they held registration and contingency at one of the baseball stadiums and it was busier than the last couple of mexican score events. and it turns out that the greatest driver in the world is a full time class 11 pilot. imagine that. very enjoyable experience and if given a chance, the city of mexicali could hold a big time race there. they've got everything it takes to stage a big event. i hung out with omar dipp and had a chance to meet curtis and art eugenio at contigency who had just arrived after having taken in the KOH. i believe omar got 2nd in 5/1600. the landrush starts are really something. especially when the class 11's started. sounded like a bunch of hornets going by. very very impressive. thanks go out to code, the hotel colonia , the city of mexicali and it's citizens who made everyone feel welcome. if you've ever got a clear calender when they throw one of these things, jump on it. it's a blast....cruised up the rumorosa auto pista to tecate. just under an hour wait at the tecate crossing. that's the way to go for sure. fun weekend .
"so that's your wife? last time i saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it".........rodney dangerfield RIP....
