18 year old homeless kid
Well not totaly out of the house but almost. Here is the story his mom married a dirt bag when the guy was 10 and the "stepdad" is raving drunk and kicks the kid out every other day mom dosen't say anything to step dad? and the kid works for me and he is one of the best loyal guys in my team i let him stay at the shop to sleep and shower etc. never let me down my question to all of you folks is should move him in to live with my family I have plenty of room [bleeding heart syndrome] or should i just ignore this and let him go away? I feel pretty bad about the situation he's like a son to me and lately i'm losing sleep thinking the kid is going to turn for the worst

i think you answered your wn question. if the kid is like a son to you and the best loyal person on your team its easy. or you could always pay him more and then maybe he could get his own deal going.

You can't rent a dive apartment in this town for less that a grand a month plus power/water/food etc I have already thought of that I'm going to talk to the wife about this at our friday night date night to get her thoughts. I really feel for the kid and i'm positive he knows where he is going in life just happend to get delt a bad hand in life. I have a hard time hearing the way he is treated at "home" and for whatever reason I care about him.

Take him in and then go kick his step dad in the nuts! OK, maybe not the 2nd part but it sounds like he needs a good mentor in his life.

Answered your own question with that Jeff.
You already know what to do...
Don't bother me. I'm wasting potential.

Maybe somehow "help" him set up a savings account. In the future he will learn how to budget and, save up to move out (whenever) on his own?

Maybe give him a raise, that raise being you pay for some of his rent...or he pays the rent you pay his house bills...just thinking out loud.....it might be better for him to live with you and see how a family actully works,it's hard to belive but if you do not have a good home for awhile you forget what one is and it feels good to get one back.

Jeff you already know in your heart what the right thing to do is and if you have the means to do it and it will not mess up things for you at home I say do it. Make an arrangement so he doesnt feel like it's all charity. It will be better for his self esteem and you will get to grow your family a little bit.

Re: 18 year old homeless kid
A man named Bill Wilson who started Metro Ministries comes to our church once or twice a year. His story is truly amazing. One day as a very young child he was walking down a street with his mother. She stopped at a corner bench and instructed him to sit there and wait for her to return. He sat and waited for three days straight and she never returned. A guy who drove that road every day to work saw Bill sitting there for several days alone, he stopped and picked him up. Bill said that mans family took him in and saved his life. Bill has dedicated his life to saving children from being dumped on the streets. Bill has been shot and stabbed by gang members when he has been attempting to save kids from that life of crime and living on the streets.
One quote Bill said and it has stuck with me is; "You might not be a King, but you can be a King maker!"
