Re: 18 year old homeless kid
As others have said you really already know you answer. In life we can't always choose our path and when handed a bad one sometimes all it takes is knowing that someone cares and that is enough to help someone rise from adversity and accomplish great things. From what you describe I don't think you will have any worries about this being a situation where you will be taken advantage of. Its easy to look the other way and it really does take a lot to step up and be there for someone. I commend you for what you have done so far and for what I am sure you will do in the future.

Re: 18 year old homeless kid
If he is indeed over 18 years old, then he is considered an adult and is independent from his parents. You then need to look into your own heart and decide what's best for him.
If it feels right, give him a room and require him to pay you a small monthly rent. Then open a savings account for him and deposit the "rent" money into this account. When the time comes for him to get his own place you can give him this money as a start for education, own place, etc.....Believe me, it's a gift he'll never forget !!

Maybe, help him find a room for rent cuz you don't know the real story at his home. Or talk to his parents directly and get both sides before you subject your family. You both might be better served by helping him grow up rather then continuing being an "18 year old KID".
But it really seems like you know you need to do something for this young man. Tough situation buddy. Good luck.

Re: 18 year old homeless kid
I have spoken to his mom many times she is powerless over the step dad very soft spoken and easily stepped on. She likes me for taking tyler under my wing. His real dad died in a truck crash [drunk] when we was 8. I honestly think the kid has seen the "DARK SIDE" and hates it hell he graduated with a 3.8 and can play any musical gadget made. When we get to the shop after a hard day the guys will have a beer not him this is when tyler gets a little "weird" I think HE thinks when people drink they start yelling and fighting among themselves [some people are like that we all no a few] he wanders off looking at the mountians or the stars I know full well he dosen't want to go home and face the step dad.

Re: 18 year old homeless kid
I admire you for wanting to help this kid. Be cautious about letting him live with you. It could be disruptive to your family. As others have said, I would suggest helping him find a place / room to rent. If you have the means and are willing, maybe you can pay for the 1st & last month deposit. Invite him over for family dinners, be supportive and guide him on wise decision making. Unfortunately, it sounds like he is having to grow up a little faster than most. He will need a role model. What's that saying, "give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him to fish, he eats for life" or "a hand up, not a hand out". Your heart is in the right place. This is just my 2 cents.

Can't stand him he works on equipment that destroys the earth, she has not made the connection of where the money comes from YET. Also he was not seen at the Martin Luther King rally she Ditched the first day of a new school semester [I'm still having issues with that one] So he is pond scum in her mind.
