Re: Class 8 Build
we now have the frame boxed on the inside and have started on the outside. got all of the suspension pockets finished up and picked up our new upper aluminum links from Summit Machine the other day. Also started some tube work. should start looking like a truck again real soon.

Re: Class 8 Build
I read somewhere recently that aluminum links shouldn't be used for the upper links. . .I don't remember why, and I have never used aluminum links myself. . .I will try to find the information again.
Has anyone else ever heard this? If so, do you know why?
The frame is looking great by the way!!!

Re: Class 8 Build
I used aluminum links on our Ranger and never had any issues, but if there is something i need to know about them, i'm all ears.
these are made from 7075 solid stock. 2". i could see tube being an issue.
Thanks. Its a lot of work but well worth it.

I'm not saying that it is a problem. . .just that I remember reading something about it recently. . .I'll start checking my resources and see what I can find.

Richard, that frame is looking nice. Can't wait to see the whole truck when done.

Re: Class 8 Build
Looks good.
What is the weight difference between a sheetmetal style beam like your SW's illustrations and a tube beam that is plated? Negligible?
Will the plate style beam be significantly stronger than a plated tube beam?
Just curious. . .

Re: Class 8 Build
I would think thats its totally preference. ive built beams out of tube before and have never had any problems. Jimmy is trying something different and i think it looks really nice. the extra thick rolled edges on the bottom will be a benefit, seem to always bash the tube on my other beams. these will be all chromoly plate and will be welded with super missile rod. We plan on goin to the moon in this truck.
