    Re: uniball cup straps

they are pretty easy to make. start with poster board and lay out the pc in 2d. cut it out. transfer to metal plate amd cut it out and then roll it on a roller, bend on a brake. over your knee, over the part itself. use whatevervu need to form it to the correct contour.the reason for the end being pointed or arrow shaped is that if it were ninety degrees that sharp corner and delirection change creates a stress raiser whiich promotes cracking. plus the arrow shape provides more welding surface. also putting some round holes also gives more weld area. i would make the strap start on the arm on one side and wrap all the way around the cupamd to the other side all as one pc. for the strongest results.. look at some pix of the porter cars for good examples.

Depending on the part, I'll sometimes just tack the piece in place and then hammer-form it, tacking-welding as I go. That's how I made these shockmounts and leafspring/u-bolt mounting plates . These parts were waterjet-cut, so all I had to do was line the tabs up with the slots.

    Re: uniball cup straps

No problem. Hope it helps. Designing stuff in SolidWorks and having small parts like this plasma/laser/waterjet-cut has really helped me to build stuff in a less-than-ideally-equipped shop that I wouldn't be able to make with the tools I've got on-hand. Kind of ties into the other thread you started asking about sources for diamond-shaped gussets...

    Re: uniball cup straps

I still make a lot of small/simple parts by hand. Especially stuff that I have to design/make on-the-fly. If you want to take a look at some of the stuff I've been doing lately, should give you an idea of what I'm making myself (misc tabs, mounting brackets, etc.) and what I'm designing and having made for me (all the sheetmetal in the bed, skidplates, etc.). Not having a proper shop to work in right now, most of my tools are in storage, so I'm doing most of this work with really basic tools.
