iPad in your ride?
I have a design for using the iPad in desert cars/trucks as an alternative to 10" big $$$ GPS systems.
If I make it:
-waterproof
-gps capable
-ecu display for obd2
-intercom connected
Would you be interested?

Yes, IF the price is right. 12 volt power would be nice too.
Those willing to trade freedom for security, deserve neither.

Re: iPad in your ride?
I made a mount to stick one on the dash in my Jeep, with the right GPS app it works great.

Re: iPad in your ride?
As I've posted before, the real bomb (iPad or some other device) would be a single display that is entirely customizable by the user for his particular ride. You could make gauges any color or scale you like and have customized warnings both visually and aurally. You could have part of it display the gauges and the other part display the map, like the screen on the right in the image below. Connect right to the internet to download courses etc and edit the course right on the unit using either the onscreen keyboard or plug in a usb keyboard.
In fact, I maaaaay know somebody working on this very thing......

Thanks, I think between the iPad at $500 -$700, the case, and the gps puck, the whole system can be less than $1000. If you already have the iPad then you are better off.
Other benefits, the accelerometers can give you g force feedback as well as performance measurements and you could watch videos of Danzio and RG as you go through the same sections for motivation!
One concern is whether the iPad can handle the shock and vibration. Can't do too much to reduce that even though we can reduce the dust and water.

Actually, you can protect if from shock pretty easily by putting it in a padded container. The dust is actually the hard part because you can't enclose the thing or you won't be able to use it since its a touch screen.
