I was thinking more of a universal clamp like this one from RAM but that sits flush with the dash.

I'd probably, if I was going to race with it, just fab up a mount like I would for any piece of gear. In my pre runner the RAM mount works fine but it is one that doesn't work with a case.

Here is the flat mount. I will design a swivel mount later. It can still rotate 360* with the flat mount though.

This is what I use and in the underside I used a metal plate for strength. Works incredibly well. But, yea, this doesn't use a case. So far, no probs.

If you look on mcmaster car they have adjustable ball mounts that are all aluminum and powder coated black that you can piece together for a custom mounting system. Put 2559 and 2560 in the search. Those are the catalog pages.
