Great looking truck, My first truck was a 73' F-100 set up for preunning old school style(plenty of shocks but not much travel)
For motor option, I would go with the Windsor, lighter then either 400 or 460 and will go 400+ inches easy.....Look how much work you do to keep the weight down already, why stick in heavy iron....

    Re: 71 f100 prerunner

If money wasn't a worry then one of the new Ford Coyote motors would probably work great, but the cost of one of those is beyond my means as a garage builder. . .that's why I'm sticking with either bored/stroked M-motor, an FE, or a 429/460 because all of those are already sitting in my garage and I got them pretty much for free. . .just traded some time and labor and they were mine.

Starting to get all the parts together for the front hubs and clevises. Going with PRD 2" front hubs, PRD kingpin clevis, coleman 14" rotors, and some 6 piston calipers. The front hubs are complete minus hard anodizing, and hub centrics, the kingpin clevises are getting machined now, already have the rotors, and gonna wait to find a deal on the calipers. I have a set of mocked up 2" cnc hubs if anyone is interested.

Took the trout to plaster city shock tuning with the Kurts from Prd yesturday, didn't take any videos or pics but the truck is really starting to handle. The front is working pretty good for it not being bypassed, and the back is working really good. The trout runs out of motor pretty quick, but was taking good sized whoops as fast as it can go. So time to start saving for some front bypasses and a motor.

    Re: 71 f100 prerunner

Took the trout out to plastercity for thanksgiving, the holley blue fuel pump starting to take a crap on me. After a pretty long run it started to blow the fuse, and than it was just getting hot and shutting off. After a very long trip back to plaster from the blue in, with one headlight pointing at the sky, the other light broken somewhere, and my copilot holding a flashlight it made it back to camp under its own power. I think the pump is too far from the cell from what I am reading, so thinking of getting another new holley blue, and mounting the new and old closer to the cell. And I really need some more light, or at least some lights that work, maybe a couple small led bars on the bumper for now. Finally got some good action shots.

How far away was the pump from the cell? Was it below the base as well? I'm worried about mine now (haven't used it yet).

Get them as close as possible for sure, on our stock full they are within 3ft of hose and a couple inches about the highest point of the cell. no issues in a race, every now and then(like maybe once a year) one will go out naturally. We always remove the little screen on the inside of the pump too.
